Bonney Miller, born August 25, 1933, in White Plains, New York, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2025.
She was the daughter of Jean and Donald Brokaw and sister of Barbara Jean Brokaw Bylund. A graduate of White Plains High School (1951) and Plattsburgh Teachers College (now SUNY Plattsburgh, 1955), Bonney taught first-grade and kindergarten in Hyde Park and Armonk, New York, before moving to Sarasota, Florida, in 1966.
In addition to her years in education, Bonney served as Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sarasota County for eight years, where her leadership and compassion helped strengthen mentoring relationships and positively impact the lives of countless young people.
A devoted member of Church of the Palms in Sarasota, Bonney served as an Ordained Elder and Deacon, sang in the Chancel Choir, and rang handbells for many years. She gave selflessly of her time as Wedding Coordinator for 23 years, Memorial and Funeral Organizer for 14 years, and Communion Coordinator for 8 years. She also served on various church committees, including those responsible for the design of the current sanctuary, the planning and design of the Palm Center, and Pastor Search.
Bonney was also a dedicated volunteer and donor with Samaritan Counseling Service of the Gulf Coast for many years, where she joined the Board of Directors in 2016.
In 2011, she moved to Bay Village, where she loved meeting new friends from across the country. Her interests included cooking, music, knitting, reading, and bridge, and her heart always remained in the Lake Champlain and Lake Placid region of the Adirondack National Park in upstate New York, where she spent many happy summers.
She is survived by two nephews, David Spencer Bylund of France and Philip Lee Bylund of San Francisco, California.
A memorial service will be held at Church of the Palms in Sarasota on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 11:00am. Inurnment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Keeseville, New York.
Memorial donations may be made to Samaritan Counseling Service of the Gulf Coast in Bonney's memory.
