Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kincannon Funeral Home on Sep. 23, 2023.

Maria Luisa (Lopez) Derruisseaux, age 81, longtime resident of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at St. Ann's Skilled Nursing & Therapy in Oklahoma City.  Private family services will be held with cremation arrangements under the care of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Maria was born in Mission, Texas on September 2, 1942.  The family later moved to Southwest Oklahoma where Maria attended Warren schools and she went on to receive her Associate's Degree from Western Oklahoma State College in Altus.  Maria worked at the Kellwood Sewing Factory in Altus for many years and was a supervisor before they closed operations in Altus.  She continued serving the community as a GED tester at Altus Public Schools.  On November 27, 1981 Maria married Roy E. Derruisseaux, a retired Sergeant First Class from the United State Army.  Maria and Roy enjoyed over 24 years of marriage together before Roy's death in 2006.  Maria was a longtime member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Altus.  Throughout the years, Maria enjoyed volunteer work and being actively involved with the Democratic Women of Jackson County.  In her spare time, Maria really enjoyed ballroom dancing.  She was always upbeat and smiling and she was very kind to everyone she met.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Derruisseaux in 2006; her son, David Lopez Trevino; her mother, Maria Lopez; and several brothers and sisters.

Maria is survived by her son, Joseph Trevino and his wife, Brenda; daughter, Mary L. Best and her husband, Jeffery; two grandsons, Joshua Trevino and Adrian Trevino; one great grandson, Wesley; numerous brothers and sisters; as well as many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
