Bonnie Lou Prouty, age 90, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025, in Corpus Christi, Texas. A devoted artist, educator, and spiritual seeker, Bonnie lived a life rich in creativity, faith, and love. Bonnie was born on November 14, 1934, in Adrian, Michigan. She graduated from Adrian High School before pursuing higher education at Sienna Heights School in Adrian. Her passion for the arts led her to the Leighton School of Art in Milwaukee and then to Michigan State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts. She later completed a Master of Fine Arts at Eastern Michigan University and furthered her studies in theology at Sewanee: The University of the South. Bonnie was an accomplished painter whose work reflected both technical mastery and spiritual depth. Her art was not only a personal expression but also a means of encouraging others to find beauty and meaning in their own lives. As an art educator and regional supporter of the arts in both Michigan and South Texas—particularly the Coastal Bend—Bonnie held leadership roles at the Corpus Christi Art Center and Rockport Art Center. Through these positions, she nurtured countless artists and helped foster vibrant creative communities. Her devotion extended beyond the canvas. Bonnie was deeply active in the Episcopal Church and found great joy exploring the intersection between creativity and spirituality. Her faith influenced every aspect of her life. Whether through teaching, painting, or worship, she sought to uplift others with grace and compassion.

Bonnie’s family was central to her heart. She and her veterinarian husband, Pat, raised three sons in Belleville, Michigan and later in Marquette, Michigan and Corpus Christi, Texas. She is lovingly remembered by her sons Steven Edward, Daniel Bruce, and David Andrew and daughter-in-law Eliana Emmanoel; her grandchildren Nathan Daniel, Andrew Thomas, Megan Rose, Andre Emmanoel, and Danielle Emmanoel; and her great-granddaughter Sage Shanti Rose. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dayton "Pat" Louis Prouty. She is lovingly remembered by her beloved partner and world traveler, Fred Snook, with whom she enjoyed “a second dance in life”.

Those who knew Bonnie will remember her as a profoundly intelligent and creative soul who drew comfort from nature’s beauty and inspiration from its ever-changing light. An adventurer at heart, she never tired of discovering new ways to see—and paint—the world around her.

Visitation will be Friday, April 11, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home, located at 814 East Main St., Rockport, Texas 78382
