Bonnie Spies Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wiley Funeral Home - Granbury on Mar. 30, 2026.
Bonnie Kay Spies, 70, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and teacher passed away on Friday morning, March 27, 2026, in Fort Worth.

Visitation will be held from 6 until 8, on Wednesday evening, April 1, 2026, at the Wiley Funeral Home, 400 Highway 377 East in Granbury. Funeral services celebrating Bonnie's life will be held at 2 P.M., on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at the Granbury Church of Christ. Burial will be private at Rock Creek Cemetery in Glen Rose.

Bonnie was born on July 6, 1955, in Waco, Texas, to the late Ira and Oleta Conner. On July 23, 1977, Bonnie married Robert Spies and together had four children, Rachel, Ira, Lydia, and Jodi. During her children's early years, she was a stay-at-home mom who filled their days with reading, music, activities, and imagination. Always thrifty, Bonnie sewed many clothes, costumes, and quilts for her family.

As her children entered school, Bonnie decided to pursue teaching certification. She adored children of all ages, and was a dedicated teacher at Glen Rose Elementary where she taught multiple grade levels prior to finding her niche in special education. She also volunteered in many roles at Granbury Church of Christ, including camp counselor and Bible class teacher.

Bonnie never saw her role of mother to be limited to her biological children. Multiple friends of her children lived in her home when they were in need of a place to live, and were welcomed as full members of the family. The door was always open, and she usually had something homemade and delicious waiting for those who came. She and her husband Bob cultivated a large garden together from which they would distribute fresh, organic produce not only to family and friends, but also to the local food bank to help those in need.

Bonnie also was an artist when it came to greeting cards. Each one sent was handmade, usually made with the specific recipient in mind and tailored to their unique personality. These labors of love could take up to 10 hours to produce, and always made the recipient feel seen and loved. These cards will be forever cherished by those blessed enough to receive one.

Family and friends remember Bonnie for her kind presence and fun-loving nature. She was equally good at listening and comforting as she was at creating imaginary adventures with her youngest family members. Her grandchildren called her BooBoo and knew she was always their biggest supporter and cheerleader.

Bonnie was a true angel on earth and will always be remembered for her warm smile, tight hugs, endless generosity, and selfless spirit.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Bob of nearly 49 years; her children, Rachel Wells, Ira and wife Kelley Spies, Lydia and husband Chris Robey, and Jodi and husband Robert Bishop; grandchildren, Conner and wife Abbie Wells, Micah Wells, Josiah Wells; Cora Spies, Jude Spies, Eleanor Spies; Griffin Robey, Asher Robey, and Elliott Robey; and Bonnie Bishop; and by her brother, Donnie Conner.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bonnie's memory may be made to the LDL Foundation who will further their work supporting Glen Rose Elementary.
