George Hester Obituary

George Jay Hester

September 29, 1953 - March 24, 2026

Fort Worth, Texas - It is with heavy hearts that we share the sudden passing of George Jay Hester who departed this life on March 24, 2026.

A Visitation will be held from 6:00–8:00 PM, Thursday, April 2nd, 2026 at Laurel Land-Rose Hill Funeral Chapel (formerly Shannon Rose Hill). Funeral Service will be held at Sagamore Baptist Church, 2301 Dottie Lynn Pkwy, Ft. Worth, TX on Friday, April 3rd at 11:00 AM. Burial to follow at Laurel Land-Rose Hill Memorial Park (formerly Shannon Rose Hill).

The son of Beverly and Jay Nelson Hester, Jay was born September 29, 1953 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was a proud Highlander basketball athlete, graduating from Eastern Hills High School and attended Weatherford College. Jay embarked on a remarkable career as an entrepreneur, making his mark as one of the pioneers of the booming stockyards since 1982 including the famous Cantina Cadillac and the Cody building, making him the oldest bar owner in the stockyards, heavily involved in oil, horse racing, agriculture business, philanthropy and investment real estate along with many other ventures. His commitment and tenacity earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike.

Jay was a true cowboy in every aspect. Enjoying things like hunting, horses and cattle, shooting, fishing, anything in the stockyards and spending time with his grandkids brought him joy and peace. He was the toughest guy we know and always wanted everyone to have a good time. Jay was loved and cherished by family, friends, business associates, and all who had the privilege to know him. Jay was loyal, wise, and a God loving man who gave us laughs to cherish forever. How lucky we are to have known him.

Jay will be remembered for his determination, generosity, and unwavering support for family and friends. He'll be reunited with his Mother, Beverly in heaven. He is survived by his beloved wife Debra, his dear father Jay Nelson, loving sister, Sue Ann Soll and husband Don, former wife and mother of his children, Linda Hall, son Jay Hester JR. and wife Sissy, stepson Wil Wakeland, daughters Whitney Cooper and husband Rob, Irene Pollock and husband JD, and Kristen Holle and husband Greg. Jay adored his 10 grandchildren Landon Jay, Lexi, Kennedy, Kenzie, Brooklyn, Paisley, Cash, Payton, Miles and Presley and they will miss his presence greatly.
