Boyd Carlton Clayton, age 87, passed away very peacefully on Monday, March 2, 2026, at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield.
Boyd was born on December 14, 1938, in Harnett County to the late Paul and Marie Barnes Clayton. He was preceded in death by his brother, Barnes Clayton. Boyd is survived by his wife of 45 years, Brenda Cribb Clayton and his daughter, Sharon Clayton McLamb (Jan). Grandchildren: Jill McLamb Morris (Daniel), Jared McLamb (Amanda) Great grandchildren: Landry and Larkin Morris, Camden and Clayton McLamb, baby Ellington McLamb due in July.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 pm on Monday, March 9, 2026, in the sanctuary at Benson Pentecostal Holiness Church, 8991 Hwy. 27 E., Benson, NC. After the visitation, the funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Angier, NC.
Boyd joined the Army shortly after graduation from high school and became a paratrooper. After discharge, he pursued a career in accounting and worked for ITT, Almay Cosmetics, Lynch Communications, and Coca Cola. Later, he owned and managed a retail auto parts and service business, and he also worked several years for Leith. Upon retirement in 2004, he taught himself leatherwork, and because of his great interest in handguns, he enjoyed making holsters, along with belts, sunglass holders, and a variety of other items.
When Boyd was not in his workshop, he could be found working with Brenda in their beautiful yard. He loved making her laugh. Giving his life to Jesus in 2022 is Brenda's assurance that they will be reunited to live forever in His presence.
