Boyd Hatchell Obituary

Boyd Otto Hatchell Jr.

September 15, 1938 - December 31, 2025

Boyd Otto Hatchell Jr., died on Wednesday, December 31, 2025. He was born on September 15, 1938, to the late Boyd and Edna James Hatchell.

He graduated from McClenaghan High School in 1957. He attended the University of South Carolina and was a member of the U.S. Army.

While in college he had the pleasure of working with the Lt. Governor and later with Governor Robert McNair, whom he admired very much. He was a honorable lifetime member of the Elks Lodge #1020 and was a Mason.

He loved to play golf and enjoyed stock car racing. While living in Florida, he was a member of the Florida Inboard Racing Association. In a race at Marine Stadium in Miami he missed the world record by 2 tenths mph in his class. He also owned his own business in Florence for 20 years. He was past President of St. Petersburg Florida Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Columbia Chamber in Columbia, SC. From the late 90's until 2018, he was Senior Vice President of Alexander & Lee Publishing Co., of Asheville, NC (publishers of Chamber of Commerce directories only).

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James B. Hatchell; and sisters, June Anderson and Virginia Spann.

Surviving are his sons, Trey (Cary) Beckman, of Columbia, SC, Jospeh O. Hatchell, of Florence, SC and Jarred J. (Heather) Hatchell, of Florene, SC; daughter, Ramelle (Glenn) Dinofer, of Springville, AL; brother, Ronald B. Hatchell, of Florence, SC; sisters, Lynda Gail (Archie) Carter, of Evans, GA, and Ann Edmonds, of Florence, SC; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Boyd has gone to be with the Lord. He said his last wish would be that everyone would turn to God, their Creator and enjoy all he has waiting for them.

In 2022, he took up residency at Bethea Retirement Community until his passing. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at Bethea for their exceptional care, kindness, and support for Boyd.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, on Monday, January 5, 2026, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at the Florence Baptist Temple at 2:00 PM, on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
