DEACON BRADFORD HOWARD, SR., age 84 of York, Alabama affectionately known to most as "Coach" was born June 22, 1940 in Sumter County, Alabama to the blessed union of the late Nathaniel and Sallie Richardson Howard. He peacefully transitioned to the Will of God surrounded by loving family at his residence on March 29, 2025. Service of Remembrance and Life Celebration is slated for April 5, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. from First Baptist Church, 504 Lafayette Street, Livingston; with Rev. Edmond Bell delivering the eulogy, offering words of comfort and consolation. Rev. Thomas Davis is pastor and officiant with Sister Bettye Rodgers Maye serving as Mistress of Order. Deacon Howard will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time. Interment follows with Military Detail in Livingston City Memorial Gardens. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled Friday evening (April 4th) from 2-5:00 p.m. in the Weatherly Chapel. The processional leaves from the Howard residence located 134 Weatherly Circle at 11:30 a. m. Saturday morning.
Brad's early sunrise in Christ began when he joined First Baptist Church, Livingston, where he later faithfully served as Deacon and a member of the Men's Choir.
Brad was a high school graduate of Sumter County Training School, Livingston, Alabama in 1959. He obtained a Bachelors of Science in Physical Education and Social Studies at Alabama A&M University, Normal, Al and a Masters of Science in Physical Education at University of West Alabama, Livingston, AL. Giving honor and allegiance to his country, he enlisted and served in the U.S. Army.
As a teacher, he found joy in nurturing young minds and guiding athletes as a coach, instilling in them the values of perseverance, teamwork, and integrity. At Paramount High School, Coach Howard was awarded the "Perfect Season" award for having a 10-0 record in 1988. In 1989, he was presented the #1 Coach award for his 1989 football program.
Brad leaves to Cherish his Memories: his loving wife, Liza Ann James Howard of 55 years. His legacy continues through his three children; Bradford Howard, Jr, Bradenton, FL., Rodney Howard, Riverdale GA, and Lottie (Mack) Davis, Honolulu, HI; four grandchildren, Jamarcus (Alisha), Tuscaloosa, AL., Howard, Makenzie and Myles; and two great grandchildren, Jamarcus, JR. and Jaylen. He also leaves two sisters-in-law, Inez Christian, Allen Park, MI, and Mary Lynch, Tuscaloosa, AL; two nieces, Carla (Anthony) Thomas, Upper Marlboro, MD. and Cyndy Howard, Pawtucket, RI; two nephews, Roderick, Honolulu, HI. and Raymond Howard of Boston, Massachusetts, along with numerous other relatives, friends, church members and associates who loved him dearly and whom he also loved. Truly Brad will be missed!
