Brady Mattox Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 31, 2025.
Brady Glenn Mattox, age 89 of Buffalo Valley, Oklahoma, passed away from this life on October 30, 2025 in McAlester, Oklahoma. Brady was born in Buffalo Valley on August 3, 1936 to Hazel (Evans) and Virgil May Mattox. He attended Buffalo Valley school until the 10th grade, when he quit school to go to work with his dad. He helped build roads, drove big trucks, and ran equipment. Brady married the love of his life, Alta Lee King on February 5, 1958 in Yanush, Oklahoma. They lived in New Mexico and Arizona and many other places before calling their home in Buffalo Valley / Yanush area. Some of his many careers included; hauling wrip wrap when they were building Sardis Lake, drove a truck across country, hauled logs to Arkansas, worked in asphalt, built pads for oil field locations all over Oklahoma, until he got hired on a Latimer County District 2 and worked there until retiring in 2007. He enjoyed going to the Yanush store and drinking coffee every morning with his coffee buddies. He loved to buy vehicles and stuff and fix them up and sell them. He always had something sitting out in his yard for sale. He loved to visit and talk to people. He always wanted to know his nurse and aides names, where they lived and if he knew their family. He often said, "you don't know if you don't ask." The last 4.5 years he spent living in Blocker, OK next to his daughter and son in law, letting them help take care of him. He was a fighter until the end.
Brady is survived by his daughter, Marcella Mounce and husband Tony; two very special nephews, Harvey and wife Alice of Barling, AR, and Harold and Maggie Mattox of Muskogee, OK; one niece, Vickie Lusby and husband Joe; two very special friends, Roy McCormick and Norman Burge; as well as many extended family and friends.
Brady is preceded in passing by his parents, brother, Howard Mattox; sister, Louise McCormick; wife, Alta Lee; daughter, Glenda Lee Mattox.
Graveside services will be on Tuesday November 4, 2025 at 10:00AM at Cupco Cemetery in Yanush, Oklahoma with Bro. Rodney Tate officiating. Services have been entrusted to McCarn Funeral Service.
