Brandon Lewis Monson

Brandon Lewis Monson, our beloved buddy, son and brother, passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 19th, 2022 in Salt Lake City, at the age of 34. His sudden passing has left his family and friends devastated. He was born on February 17th, 1988, in Salt Lake City, UT to Tammy Kennedy and Timm Monson.
Brandon attended Hunter Highschool, where he loved his debate class and became fluent in Russian. He graduated from Hunter High school in 2006 and went on to attend DePauw University in Indiana where he received a Bachelor of Arts, Political Science Degree in 2010.
Brandon's background included non-profit fundraising, public relations/affairs, project management and marketing. Brandon was passionate about civil rights protection for the LGBTQ community, inspired by his Uncle Mark and Tony. He worked hard in high school to stand up for LGBTQ students and when he got to college did the same, advocating for full equality and legal rights. He served as the Communications chair for Indiana Equality and the Director of Development and Communications at Equality Ohio. He also had interests that included clean air, women's rights, and volunteered places such as The Road Home.
Brandon was known for his witty sense of humor and loved to joke around. Some of our best memories are of him making us laugh until our cheeks hurt. He enjoyed the outdoors and hiking. Camping trips were a family favorite of his, though he had a contempt for squirrels. He was interested in boxing and this year he ran his first marathon which had been on his bucket list. Brandon took pride in looking his best, which often included a suit, tie, cuff links, tie clip, pocket square, final dab of cologne, and an ever-growing collection of tattoos.
He is survived by his mother, Tammy Monson-Welsh; sisters Savannah Thomas (George) and Cheyenne Monson; bonus sisters, Taryn Plys (Cory), Jennifer Woodbury (Seth), and Cheri Moore (Bert); aunt Cindy Davis (Nathan), uncle Todd Monson (Dawn); many loved cousins; former wife Svitlana Okliyevych. As well as Timm Monson.
He is preceded in death by his step-father, Mike Welsh, who he loved and admired with all of his heart. Also, preceded in death by his uncle Mark Bridges and his partner Tony Politelli. As well as, his dearest friend Dukas Malloy.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 3rd at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary and Cemetery 3115 Bengal Blvd, Cottonwood Heights, UT. In lieu of a viewing, a memorial gathering for friends and family to pay respects will start at 1:00 pm and the funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm. Interment of Ashes will be at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary and Cemetery at a later date.
