It is with immense sadness that we announce the unexpecting passing of Mr. Brandon “Chaz” Smith on Monday, February 24, 2025.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 1st, 2025 at 5:00 PM at the Catawba Indian Nation Longhouse located at 996 Avenue of the Nation Rock Hill, SC 29730 with Swain Wright officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
Chaz was born on August 30th, 1989 in Concord, NC to John O’dell Smith, Jr. and Sherri Kimbrell Smith. Chaz was best known for his generosity and unwavering loyalty. He had a giving spirit and was always willing to help those around him.
A 2007 graduate of Northwestern High School, Chaz had a passion for experiencing new places and making lasting memories. He found freedom in traveling and was always eager to explore new destinations. Whether playing cornhole with friends or trying his luck at Catawba Two Kings Casino, Chaz cherished those experiences and the connections they fostered. Music was an essential part of his life-not only did he love listening to it, but he also used it as a means of self-expression.
Above all else, Chaz deeply valued his family and the moments spent together. Known as the “family man” his love for his family and close friends was evident in the time he spent with them. He loved deeply and wholeheartedly, leaving a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know him.
In addition to his parents, Chaz is survived by his stepfather, Jerry Branch; four sisters, Candace Natasha Smith, Tiffany Lynn Smith, Kristen Nicole Smith (Jesse) and Christy Lynn Henderson; four nephews; and four nieces; his girlfriend, Mindy Sweigart; and his lifelong best friend, Heather Griffin. He was preceded in death by Jonathan Blake Smith “Juicy”; paternal grandmother, Linda Carmichael; maternal grandmother, Nettie Kimbrell Funderburk; and Aunt, Joyce “JuJu” Therrell.
Chaz’s memory will live on in the hearts of all those who knew him. May his kindness and love continue to inspire all who were touched by his presence.
