Brenda J. Hasara, 72, of Clarion, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion.
A Celebration of Brenda's Life will be held from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East, in Clarion. Burial will take place at a later date at Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus, Georgia.
Brenda was born on June 5, 1952, at Fort Benning, Georgia, to Hazel and Leslie Dorn. She was raised and educated there, graduated from Jordan High School with the Class of 1970. Following graduation, she attended Columbus Technical College where she studied to be a nurse's aide. She later attended in Worthington Community College, graduated in 1990 as an LPN. Certified as an EMT in 1983 from Iowa Lakes Community College.
Brenda was united in marriage to Kevin "Hondo" Hasara, in 1974. Hondo's military career led to the couple living a variety of places around the country, including Anchorage, Alaska, Fort Knox, Kentucky and Fort Benning, Georgia.
In 1981, following Hondo's discharge from the Army, the couple made their home in Lake Park, Iowa.
Brenda worked as a nursing assistant at Lake Park Care Center from 1981 – 1986, when she took on a role as a medication aid, until 1990, when she was promoted to charge nurse. In 1998, she moved back to Columbus, Georgia, where she worked as a clinic and wound care nurse until her retirement in 2016.
In her retirement, Brenda moved to Clarion, Iowa, in order to be closer to her kids, Jim, Cindy, Daryl, and the grandkids. Brenda volunteered at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion until her death.
Brenda's time volunteering at Iowa Specialty Hospital was nothing new, she had previously volunteered on the Lake Park Ambulance Service 15 years, the Town and Country Boosters in Lake Park for more than 10 years, as well as with the American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, and American Cancer Society. Throughout her life, Brenda was very active with the Girl's Club of America, and served as a camp counselor, lifeguard, water safety instructor from 1967 – 1972.
Brenda never met a stranger, and always put everyone, and their interests, ahead of her own. Her family was the center of her life, and she often traveled with them, to Branson, Missouri and Horseshoe Lake, Minnesota while living in Iowa, and loved going to Panama City beach and NASCAR races in Talladega, while living in Georgia. She was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan, loved painting ceramics and pottery, and watching Lifetime TV. In recent years, attending her grandkids' school activities was a huge priority in her life.
Brenda will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jim (Cindy) Dorn, of Clarion and Daryl Hasara, of Iowa Falls; grandchildren James Dorn and Abby Dorn, both of Clarion. Her beloved grand-puppies: Bear and Coy. Her sister, Barbara Stevens of Columbus, Georgia; her nephew Mark Stevens of Columbus; her sister-in-law Sharon Hasara of Cedar Rapids; and her brothers-in-law Bruce (Inez) Hasara and Tim Newbrough, both of Lake Park, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother-in law Mark Hasara; her sister-in-law Jane (Hasara) Egland; her nephew Michael Stevens; and her parents-in-law, Deloris and Daryl "Pep" Newbrough.
In lieu of flowers and customary remembrances, Brenda's family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Iowa Specialty Hospital Auxiliary and sent to their attention c/o Ewing Funeral Home, PO Box 363, Clarion, Iowa, 50525.
