Brenda Lou Mayfield, 83, of Leesburg, Florida, left this earthly life on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at IU Health Methodist Hospital. Brenda is now free of the struggles of failing health and dementia. She was born in St. Albans, West Virginia on July 31, 1940 to the late Frank Wroten and Rosa (Goble) Wroten.
She graduated from Collins High School in Oak Hill, West Virginia with the class of 1958. She married the love of her life, Edwin Jerry Mayfield, on June 3, 1960. They had enjoyed over fifty years of marriage when Jerry passed on May 17, 2011.
Brenda worked for RCA for many years as an executive secretary. After retirement, she worked for her son, Dean, at Mayfield Insurance. She was a member of GraceWay Church in Leesburg, Florida. She previously was active with the Mooresville Revitalization and served as president. She enjoyed working on Victorian Christmas each year. She also was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Optimist Club.
To say she was proud of her grandchildren and the rest of her family would be an understatement. She was an avid supporter of her grandchildren and enjoyed cheering them on in whatever activity.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by many including her sons, Dean (wife, Peggy) Mayfield of Martinsville and Scott (wife, Kellie) Mayfield of Arab, Alabama; daughter, Toni (husband, Bryan) Roark of Mooresville; brother, John Wroten of Prince, West Virginia; sisters, Jackie (husband, Charles) Browning of Scott Depot, West Virginia; Gaynell “Janet” (husband John) Tolley of Fayetteville West Virginia grandchildren, Christopher (wife, Kelsey) Mayfield, Andrew Mayfield, Austin Mayfield, and Michael Mayfield, Corey (wife, Mekenzie) Roark, Tyler Roark, and Amanda (husband, Jake) White; and great grandchildren, Brentlee, Ayden, Oakley, Tessa, Abel and Margaret
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Frank and Rosa Wroten; husband, Edwin “Jerry” Mayfield; brother, Frank Wroten; and infant sister, Sandra Wroten.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, January 9th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the chapel at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service and Crematory in Mooresville. Brenda’s Life Celebration® Service will immediately follow, beginning at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. In keeping with her wishes, her earthly remains will be cremated.
