Brenda K. Sturgell died Tuesday, August 26, 2025 peacefully at home after battling heart disease bravely and quietly for years. She is survived by her daughter Olivia A. Sturgell, her sister Barbara L. Sturgell, her nephew Jacob T. Rackett, and a multitude of both extended family and dear friends. She is predeceased by her loving mother, Norma J. Sturgell, who she now joins in Heaven.
To know Brenda was to love her - Fierce and vibrant, she lived her life with unapologetic passion, reminding us all to embrace each moment fully and authentically. Though her personality was bold and her voice strong, it was her selflessness that defined her. She always put the needs of others before her own-whether it was offering comfort in times of sorrow, encouragement in times of doubt, or unconditional love without limits.
Her greatest joy in life was being a mother to Olivia. As a mother, she was a guiding star, teaching resilience, love, and the importance of standing tall in the face of life's challenges. Her legacy lives on in the lives she shaped, the love she gave, and the fire she instilled in those who will carry her memory forward. She is deeply missed, yet we take comfort in knowing that her spirit will never dim. Her light continues to burn in our hearts - a reminder of the strength, love, and brilliance she shared so freely.
Calling hours will be held Saturday, September 20th from 1 PM - 3 PM at the Barber Memorial Home, Inc. Johnson City, with a short service to follow. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Brenda, please visit our floral store.
