Retired Lowell Police Officer, Loving Husband, Son, Brother, Uncle, and Friend
Boca Raton, FL Brendan Tobin, age 79, died peacefully Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at his home in Boca Raton, FL. Brendan was born December 27, 1944 in Lowell, MA. He was the son of the late Thomas F. and Mary (McGlynn) Tobin. He was the beloved husband of Ellen (Lumbert) Tobin for 48 years up to the time of her passing in 2020.
Brendan was a lifelong resident of Lowell before his retirement to Florida in 2017. He was a graduate of St. Peters School, Keith Academy, Coyne Electrical School, and UMass Lowell where he earned a degree in Criminal Justice.
Brendan was a proud veteran of the Lowell Police Force, having earned the rank of Sergeant. He retired in 2000. Brendan loved to watch, read, and study all sports. He was a diehard fan of all Boston sports teams. He played for the Nashua Colts of the Atlantic Coast Football League in the 1960s. An avid golfer, Brendan was a long time member of Longmeadow Golf Club. He was an active participant in the goodwill of the club, and he forged many strong friendships there. Long Meadow was a big part of his family of friends. Brendan participated in the inaugural Lowell Public Links Golf Tournament where he recorded a Hole-in-One on the ninth hole at Tyngsboro Country Club.
Brendan is survived by his two brothers and one sister: Thomas and Elizabeth (Heenan) Tobin of Lowell; Kevin and Patricia (Gendron) Tobin of Lowell; Miriam Carter and her husband T. Barton Carter of Boston; and a sister-in-law Kathleen (Gallagher) Tobin of North Reading. Though Brendan had no children of his own, he was the treasured uncle to 11 nieces & nephews, 27 grand and 5 great-grand nieces and nephews. Brendan was predeceased by his brother, John S. Tobin of North Reading.
The family would like to thank Brendan's dear friends, Bernie and Joyce Kokinos, for the companionship and care they gave to Brendan over the last few years.

I have been friends with Brendan for over 60 years. I share many good memories of him and with him. For many years, in the 70s we shared season tickets with the Bruins, those were the golden years of Bobby Orr and the many other fabulous players of those years. May he rest in peace .
