Brent L. Smith, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend passed away peacefully at home on October 13, 2024, at the age of 67. Born on October 1, 1957, in Mishawaka, Indiana, Brent dedicated his life to his family, friends, and community.
Brent graduated from Jimtown High School and proudly followed in the footsteps of his father by joining the family business, Henry Smith Plumbing & Heating. After gaining valuable experience alongside his father, he went on to establish his own plumbing and heating service, which became a trusted name throughout the Syracuse area. His generosity was boundless, always one phone call away for those in need. Renowned for his charismatic personality, many affectionately referred to him as “the mayor,” a testament to his love for the Syracuse community. Brent was fortunate to have countless friends and had a gift for spontaneity and fun. Brent's zest for life extended to his favorite activities, which included golfing, playing pool, cruising in his yellow convertible, and boating around Lake Wawasee.
He shared 27 wonderful years with his wife, Norene (Stouder) Smith, whom he loved fiercely. Brent's pride in his family was evident, and his legacy will live on through his daughter, Lindsay (Andrew Powers) Smith, step-daughters, Beth Black and Pam Nutting, and grandsons Jacob Black and Kayden Coleman. He also leaves behind his brothers Brian Smith and Blane Smith, as well as his in-laws, Orlo Stouder, Brian Stouder, and Christine Huffman. The warmth of his spirit will be missed by his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and many cherished cousins.
Brent's life was marked by tremendous strength, particularly in his battle against cancer. True to the resilient nature of the Smith family, he fought valiantly and with unwavering determination until he was called home. Brent is predeceased by his beloved grandmother, Ruth Ann Hicks Robinson, parents, Henry “Hank” L. and M. Rosetta (Hicks) Smith, his brother, Bartt Smith, and his best 4-legged friend, Buddy.
