WEAVERVILLE – Brett Randall Eaker, age 62, of Weaverville, passed away Monday, September 1, 2025, and was greeted by his beloved dogs, Baxter, Roxie, and Putter.
Brett was born on July 31, 1963, in Nash County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life. He was a member of the 1981 North Buncombe High School senior class, and he earned his Bachelor’s degree from UNC Chapel Hill.
Brett worked for Hart, Inc., for more than 40 years, traveling throughout the southeast to sell educational software. If ever any one was lost and seeking directions, they needed only to tell Brett what school they lived near and he’d get them headed in the right direction. Throughout his life, this gentle soul never met a stranger and went out of his way to lend a hand, whether to change a flat tire or to carry a heavy load.
Many hours were spent on the golf course with his dad, who was his best friend, along with his cherished buddies, be it a round on Sunday with the gang at Asheville Municipal Golf Course, the spring Almost Open or the fall Redeye Tournament. A die-hard UNC Tarheel fan, Brett especially loved watching Carolina basketball games and heading to Chapel Hill for football weekends with dear friends.
Brett loved dogs and they loved him. Along with his wife, he helped foster hundreds of puppies over the years, often cradling them in his arms somewhere along Weaverville’s Main Street, happy to stop and chat in hopes of finding each one a loving home. He also loved to travel, visiting all 50 states in his lifetime. Still, some of his most favorite places were here in the Carolinas, especially Topsail Beach where he’d peacefully fish for hours.
Surviving is his wife of 19 years, Tammy Jones; parents, Jim and Peggy Beam Eaker; sister, Cindy Eaker Luttrell; niece, April Luttrell Slusher and husband Marcus; nephew, Corey Luttrell; great nieces, Candace Joy and Jessie Kristine Slusher; and Danielle Simmons and Anne Rynearson, whom he loved like nieces.
Especially cherished friends with whom he shared many great laughs and whose secrets he held sacred include Tammy Davis, TK DeWeese, Karen Randall, Dan Wasser, Mike & Valencia Hebert, Jamie Maddox, Jon Kirkpatrick, and Gary Rickman.
Brett’s family invites all who knew and loved him to celebrate his life on Sunday, September 7th, 2025, from 2 to 4 pm, at Eluvium Brewing Company, 11 Florida Avenue, Weaverville. Casual dress, please; UNC regalia encouraged.
