Brian Ray Bean was born on April 19th, 1962, to Gerry and Darlys (Vollstedt) Bean. He was a 1980 graduate of Lake City High School. Then he went on to attend Buena Vista University, where he received a BA in Business Management. He spent most of his career working at NCS Pearson for the US Department of Education Office of the Ombudsman. Brian raised his beloved children in Olin, IA. In 2011, he returned to Lake City, where he spent the rest of his years devoted to coaching high school basketball. His love for basketball was something he shared with his children, nieces, nephews, and countless athletes. In addition to the countless hours spent in the gym, Brian's hobbies included fishing at his favorite spots at Lake View, traveling with family, and sampling ice cream everywhere he went.
Brian is survived by his children, Kasey (Amanda) Bean of Stoddard, WI, and Kelli (Mitch) Ubben of Urbandale, IA. He so loved his three grandchildren, Elaina, Jack, and Taylor. Brian is also survived by his siblings Jody (Paul) Willett, Melissa (Mark) Schleisman, Wendy (Michael) Stenzel, Jeremy (Shelly) Bean, and 14 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, uncle, Paul Vollstedt, and nephew, Luke Schleisman.
