Brian Tully Flanagan, 67, passed away on February 26, 2025, in St. Joseph, Michigan surrounded by family. Born on March 27, 1957, in Oak Park, Illinois, Brian lived a life marked by dedication to his family, career, and community.
Brian attended Maine South High School in Park Ridge, Illinois. His professional journey led him to become a respected figure in the marine industry. He dedicated over two decades of service to Service 1 Marine in New Buffalo, Michigan, where he was known for his unwavering work ethic and perfect attendance. His expertise and commitment made him a vital part of the company.
Beyond his career, Brian also served his community as a member of the New Buffalo City Council. During his four-year term, he was recognized for his extensive knowledge of marinas and his contributions to local development. His passion for the waterfront and boating industry left a lasting impact on the city he called home.
Brian was a devoted father to his twins, Devin Hammons-Flanagan and Alexis Hammons-Flanagan. He took immense pride in Devin's service in both the Navy and law enforcement. He leaves behind many siblings and nieces and nephews. His love extended to his grandchildren-Braxton Schuman-Copner, Giovanni Almaraz, and Leilani Hammons-who brought him great joy.
Brian was preceded in death by his parents, James L. Flanagan and Susan (Sprague) Flanagan, as well as his brother Kevin Flanagan.
In his younger years, Brian was an avid traveler who explored nearly every state in the country. Hawaii held a special place in his heart among all the destinations he visited. Whether traveling for work or leisure, he embraced every opportunity to see new places and meet new people. Known for his gift of conversation, Brian never met a stranger-he could talk to anyone about anything with warmth and ease.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life this summer, during Brian's favorite season.
His legacy of hard work, kindness, and dedication will live on through those who knew him best. May his memory bring comfort to all who loved him.
