With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Brian James Griffin on May 13, 2025, at age 46. His years-long courageous, determined, tireless battle with cancer was nothing short of heroic. Born on June 20, 1978, Brian was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and dear friend whose warmth, courage, optimism, and dedication touched all who knew him.

Brian is survived by his loving wife, Kim Griffin; his cherished daughter, Kelli James Griffin; and his devoted son, Steven Peterson. He is also forever treasured by his parents Karen and J. Brian Smith. He is predeceased by his father, Dennis Griffin. His siblings Christine, Kerri, Megan, John Brian, and Scott will celebrate him and miss him always.

A lifelong athlete, Brian played football and hockey in high school. After graduation he attended and played football at Bridgton Academy in Maine. He then studied at Bryant College in Rhode Island where he played varsity football as a freshman, steering his squad at quarterback and tight end. He graduated in 2003 with a degree in Marketing.

Brian’s greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. He had a passion for health and fitness, and it showed. An enthusiastic supporter of Boston sports teams, he was always eager to watch a game or chat about the latest scores. Brian was also an avid dog lover.

Brian’s genuine kindness, sense of humor, unwavering support for those he loved, and distinctive fashion sense will be deeply missed. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, his friends who valued his boundless loyalty, and his family who will forever hold him in their hearts.

He loved nothing more than sharing a laugh over a home cooked meal or cheering on a Bruins victory, and his infectious laugh will be missed at every family gathering. Brian’s greatest pride was his family, and he never missed an opportunity to say, “I love you.”

Brian will be missed beyond words and remembered beyond measure.

We will forever love you, Brian.
