Brian M. Hittle

Brian M. Hittle, 74, of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Brian was born December 14, 1950, in Columbus, Indiana, the son of Eugene and Mary Jean Hittle. He married Susan Plummer on August 11, 1973.
Brian was an avid gardener, composter, and recycler, long before it was the popular thing to do. He lived by the philosophy that you should leave the earth better than the way you found it, when possible. He loved classic cars, owning a 1966 Ford Mustang for a time. When he was healthy, he enjoyed taking his girls fishing, hiking at many of Indiana's state parks, and exploring the creek near their home. In his later years, he was able to move to his own slice of heaven in the country, complete with plenty of wide open spaces to enjoy nature and wildlife. He loved animals and was able to spend many years on "the Ranch" with his beloved dog, Keefer. He showed his family and friends his love through many acts of service, large and small. If you needed something built, repaired, or moved, he was there.
Survivors include his wife, Susan, daughters, Lisa Hittle, Leslie Hittle, and Laura Hittle, all of Columbus; grandchildren, Cameron Keefe and Desmond Keefe of Columbus; brothers, Conrad (Marijane) Hittle of Edinburgh, Timothy (Emily) Hittle of San Francisco, CA, Daniel (Patty) Hittle of Columbus; sister, Colleen (Brad) Stone of Apple Valley, MN; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 29th, 2025 at Jewell-Ritman Family Funeral Home with Father Chris Wadelton officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Brian will be cremated per his wishes and burial will be determined at a later date.
