HOWARD, Brian L., age 57, of Waynesville, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 7, 2025, at UC Medical Center in Cincinnati with three brothers and his best friend by his side.
Brian graduated from Waynesville High School and the Warren County Vocational Center, class of '86. He honorably served in the United States Navy during the Persian Gulf War. As an aviation boatswain's mate, he served on the flight deck of the USS John F. Kennedy aircraft carrier, earning the rank of ABE3. In addition to his service in the Navy, Brian worked as a technician at Fujitec in Lebanon for nearly 15 years. Over the past several years, he worked at Kroger in Bellbrook.
Hardworking, caring, and ornery in a fun way, Brian had a dry sense of humor that could often provide humor to friends and family when least expected. Regarding things he felt strongly about, he was never afraid to speak up for what he was passionate about. In particular, he was very patriotic and proud of his service to his country during his time in the Navy.
While growing up in a family-oriented household, it became a tradition for Brian to join his family on Sunday night to watch the Wonderful World of Disney shows on TV. In addition, he often found himself watching old John Wayne movies with the guys, primarily out of necessity, as his dad had them on. However, Brian's favorite memories throughout his life were made on Saturday afternoons during the The OSU Buckeyes games, which became the tradition that brought Brian and his family together, never failing to inspire energetic personalities to be displayed based on the way the Buckeyes were playing. In addition to being a die-hard fan of the Buckeyes, Brian enjoyed Sunday afternoons with the guys watching the Cincinnati Bengals, assuming they weren't playing his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys.
Throughout his life, Brian enjoyed tinkering with auto mechanics, a skill he developed at the vocational center during his high school days. Additionally, he possessed an adventurous spirit, which led to several skydiving jumps. Always compassionate toward animals, a trait passed down from his father, Brian always had a cat to care for. His favorite cats included Snowball and the one he was caring for lately, Bear. Among many things, he will be remembered for his immense collection of unique shot glasses and a large selection of Buckeyes memorabilia. Most notably, however, he will be remembered for the pride he had in honorably serving his country in the US Navy.
Brian was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Mary Jo Howard. He is survived by four brothers, Scott Howard (Rosemary), Brad (Debbie) Howard, Joe (Angie) Howard, and Jeff (Ginny) Howard; his best friend, Tom Osborn, and his brothers; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 11 AM to 1 PM on Saturday, August 2, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. A celebration of life service will immediately follow the visitation at 1 PM on Saturday at the funeral home, with Celebrant Brian Bennett officiating. A committal service with full military honors will follow the celebration of life service on Saturday at Miami Cemetery in Corwin. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
