Brian Longest Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home on Jan. 28, 2024.
Brian Lee Longest of Granby, CT beloved husband of Helene (Boucher) Longest passed away very very unexpectedly on January 22, 2024. Brian was born August 21, 1962, in Manchester, Ct. He is survived by his devoted wife Helene and their children, Ashley and Benjamin Longest. He leaves behind his sister Sharon and her husband Paul Hebert, Pierrette and Lionel Boucher his in-laws with whom he was very close, his brother-in-law Roger Boucher and his wife Lisa Romanchuck of Coventry, a nephew Justin and his wife Kassie and kids Blake and Cole Boucher, niece Samantha Boucher and her daughter Savanna, many very special cousins, neighbors and friends, too many to mention. He was predeceased by his loving parents Doris B. and Samuel (Leroy) Longest and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Brian will be deeply missed by many especially his wife of 37 plus years Helene and his children Ashley and Benjamin, many loved family members and friends. Many would describe Brian as a "Great" man who always would give his whole heart to anyone needing a hand or words of wisdom or inspiration. Brian loved spending time with his kids tinkering with their diesel trucks, reliving his childhood hobbies and teaching them about everything he had great passion for. They had an inseparable bond that can never be replaced. His world revolved around the two of them and Helene. He was a family man and cherished time spent with family, as well as family friends very much.
Brian loved going to cow shows to support his daughter and loved grilling up steaks and concocting drinks with some of their show friends after a long day of primping, cleaning and showing. He enjoyed little getaways to local fairs, Brimfield and recently Fryeburg fair. Many know that he loved hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, boating, smoking food, and watching hockey, especially the Boston Bruins with wife and in-laws. He wouldn't miss the chance to sit and watch a hockey game with Lionel and their bloody mary's. Brian enjoyed hanging with Benjamin and his best buddy Tanner, working on their diesel trucks on the weekend and/or inventing another way to BBQ. He enjoyed working with his sawmill, spending time with the kid's friends and sitting around the fire pit. He was always busy with something but happy to sit down and enjoy a glass of whiskey after a long day with his wife, family or friends.
Brian enjoyed taking trips with Helene to different places, cabins, lakes, etc., up north and doing anything outdoors. The bond between them was unexplainable through thick and thin and he was there for his family. He was truly a selfless person and there aren't enough words to describe the memories and impacts that he had on each and every person that he encountered. The large impact Brian left on so many lives will be deeply missed, whether it was family, a longtime friend and coworker or just a recent encounter. He will surely always and forever live in our hearts and the many cherished memories he has left deep within us.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Brian Longest will take place on Saturday February 10, 2024, at 10AM at St. Therese Church, 120 W. Granby Road, Granby, CT 06025. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Brian was always Sharon's little brother to me with an 8 year difference in age. Brian was part of our Delmont Street Gang, my memories of him were the glimmer in his eyes and his beautiful smile. I often visited my Mom and Dad in Florida and we would visit Sam and Doris as they lived in the same town. There, I heard many wonderful stories about him. my condolences to Sharon and the entire Longest family.

My favorite time with my cousin Brian was many years ago. We were both 12 or 13 and uncle Sam and aunt Doris had come for a visit that year. It was a wonderful summer as he was able to stay with our cousin Kevin, as we were all the same age. I always wondered if there had been a bad winter when our mothers became pregnant at pretty much the same time!
I remember all of us at the Milford swimming pool being able to play and kid around. I also remember he loved his uncle Jerry's Lincoln, as it had suicide doors! We played in that parked car and Brian pretended to be a chauffeur and the rest of us got in the back. If only we lived closer together we could have shared many memories and gotten to know his beautiful wife and children. There are so many regrets in life and for me, and that is one of them. Be comforted from afar and know my deepest condolences to Helena, Ben and Ashley, my cousin Sharon, and her husband Paul and all the many people that were privileged to know and love Brian. He has went home to now be with the Longest family in heaven.

My childhood memories of Brian are few only because of the distance between us. We were always excited when Uncle Leroy and Aunt Doris would make the long drive from Connecticut to Illinois for our Longest family reunion. We would put penny's on the railroad tracks and be so amazed at how flat they were. One summer we drive out with Uncle Carl, Aunt Elaine, Mike, Pat and John what fun we had! I remember a carnival going on at the catholic church and Brian introducing us to his friends. I will always remember the fun we had and no matter the distance we picked up right where we left off! Love you all and we really wish we could have made the trip. Love and Hugs. Cheryl Longest Smith
