Brian M. Proctor, age 84, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Primrose Retirement Community in Jefferson City, Mo.
He was born December 18, 1939, in Los Angeles, Calif., the son of Allan Argent and Vivian Ruth (Hill) Proctor. Brian was united in marriage to the love of his life, Helen Murphy, who preceded him in death in June of 2003.
Brian spent much of his childhood between California and the state of Washington. He played the trumpet in the band and graduated from Bremerton High School, Bremerton, Washington, in 1950. After graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.
Considered by many to be quite the heart throb due to his fun personality, Brian was popular among ladies. However, his heart belonged to the love of his life, Helen, and the two of them got married and started a life together in Manhattan Beach, California. There, he became a dedicated father to two sons and strengthened the Proctor legacy by sharing pictures and stories.
He had a wide variety of jobs during his lifetime, including selling electronics with Keuoff, being Pro Shop Manager for Westdrift Manhattan Beach's Pro Shop, and working in management at Scotty's on the Stand. In his later years, Brian moved to Jefferson City, Missouri to be closer to his family. Here, he discovered his favorite restaurant, "The Landing Zone", and made it a family tradition every Sunday morning to enjoy a breakfast of three eggs over easy, burnt bacon, and two pieces of toast.
Brian was an active member of the American Legion-Post 5 and enjoyed spending his Wednesday nights there having beer and wings. He also had a love for sports and was an avid golfer as well as completing numerous 10K races. He was a die-hard fan of USC football and the LA Dodgers after living in California, but later embraced Missouri sports teams and became a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Missouri Tigers. Brian also spent much of his time doing crosswords which gave him the unique ability to recall facts, quotes, and stories that he shared with the rest of the family.
He had a passion for travel which brought him across the United States, and he had a special fondness for Michigan, where his wife's family resided. To him, family was always a top priority. He was always there as a safety net, ready to help anyone in need, showcasing his thoughtfulness and generosity.
Described as a people person with a fun and charismatic demeanor, Brian had an ornery side that added to his personality. His intelligence left a lasting impression on his family, who fondly remember the moments of looking at pictures and reminiscing about cherished memories. Brian will be greatly missed by all those fortunate enough to have known him.
Survivors include his two sons, Michael Proctor of Boise, Ida., and Sean Proctor of Portland, Ore.; two grandchildren, Henry and Harriette Proctor; siblings, Vian Hill James (Stephen) and Wayne Proctor all of Bremerton, Wa., and Linell Dozier (Roger) of Jefferson City, Mo.; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Helen; and four siblings, Allan R. Proctor, Gary N. Proctor, Edwin Kent, and Frances Kay Hamilton.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Freeman Mortuary, 915 Madison, Jefferson City, MO 65101, followed by a time of storytelling at the American Legion-Post 5.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
