Brian Scott Ruecker was born on October 23, 1960 in San Francisco and passed away December 25, 2025 in Sacramento. He was a loving husband to Renee for 30 years and proud father to Kathleen.
Brian grew up in Terra Linda, CA. He attended Terra Linda High School and graduated from Marin Academy. Growing up Brian loved baseball, skiing, cars, music, and he was an avid reader. He was a pitcher for his High School baseball teams and continued pitching at College of Marin. Brian attended Chico State University majoring in Marketing/Business. Brian had a strong work ethic - his first job was washing dishes at 16. After college, Brian worked in the Bay Area in finance. In his free time, he water and snow skied, played softball and golf, shot his guns and enjoyed his many friends.
At age 34, Brian had an accident in the ocean rendering him a quadriplegic. Already engaged, Brian and Renee were married months after the accident and made their home in Elk Grove. Although the accident forced Brian to live a different life than he had planned, he continued to make it a full, productive one. He became an avid stock trader/investor. He served as president of the neighborhood HOA for over 20 years. Brian loved when friends and family called him for stock tips, financial recommendations and tax advice.
His pride and joy, Katie, was born in August 2005. Brian was immediately a fully engaged dad, determined to make every moment matter. He loved his family time – movie nights, listening to music, and family outings. Brian got a kick out of being around teenagers. He coached numerous Babe Ruth baseball teams and loved to hear the escapades of Katie, her friends, his niece and nephew, and other family friends.
Brian had a love-hate relationship with his fantasy football teams. He had season tickets to the RiverCats for many years. He enjoyed gatherings with friends and family – some of his favorite days were Halloween, 4th of July, and Super Bowl Sunday. These special days were often capped off with a cigar and bourbon.
Brian is greatly missed by his wife Renee (Cameron), daughter Katie, brother Greg, nieces Jordan and Ashley, and nephew Marshall Brian and his family. Brian is preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Betty. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Brian’s loyal caregivers, Louie and Aaron, for their many years of loving service, and also to Brian’s numerous friends who enriched his life so deeply.
A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at St Maria Goretti Church, Elk Grove at 11am. A lunch reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Elk Grove Food Bank or a youth baseball organization.
