Brian Seely Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Grace Memorial - Smith Chapel - Port Huron on Jul. 31, 2023.
The world has lost a great man. The sky is a little darker, our lives are a little quieter and our hearts are very heavy. Brian Donald Seely, 66, left this earth Friday July 28, 2023, peacefully, in his home and surrounded by his loving family.
Brian was born February 21, 1957 in Port Huron Michigan. He grew up in a busy household on Jenkinson Street with two loving parents and seven children in his family. People will always remember the ice rink in their backyard. He continued the tradition in his own back yard on West Water.
Brian was a proud graduate of Port Huron High School. Once a Big Red, always a Big Red!
If you ever met Brian, you never forgot him. He was charming, kind, and had a huge loving heart that the world needed. His sense of humor and presence filled every room he entered. Brian never met a stranger and never said no to anyone that needed help.
He was a passionate fisherman, an avid hunter and a skilled golfer. He cherished his fishing buddies, and time on the water. Brian loved to kayak, whether it be here on Lake Huron or in the intercostal waterways in Florida. The hunting camp was a sacred place where he spent time with his family and "deer" friends. Swim. Bike. Run. Completing the triathlon was one of his proudest moments. "Seely brothers are like no others!" Brian was a proud member of The Elks Lodge 343, and it was a great place to relax, unwind, and have a 3 putt.
Brian was proud of his time on the Grand Trunk Railroad. He concluded his career as a conductor on the rails. After his retirement, he enjoyed gliding around Sam's club on his roller blades, eager to help and share a funny story and a smile. Brian proudly volunteered with the St. Clair County Hazmat team for several years. We all learned a safety tip or two!
It is not often that you get to witness a real life love story. In 2016, the love of his life came to him like a breath of fresh air. Brian proposed to Deborah on his kayak at the number 7 sound buoy, which you can see from their bedroom window. Brian and Deborah were married in their own back yard, just three short years ago. They made a perfect life together, and willingly shared it with all that love them.
Brian and Deborah became snowbirds in 2017, and met friends that became their extended family in Fort Meyers Beach, Florida. Back in their home state, Brain and Deborah have the best neighbors anyone in the world could have ever asked for.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William T. and Olive Seely; his brother William T. Seely, Jr.; his nephews Nathan Seely, Justin and Jared Welser; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is survived by his adoring wife Deborah; and her children Anthony Ladmirault and Tiffany Ladmirault. He had the joy of being Grandpa Brian to Dylan, Ella and Kinsley. He leaves behind his siblings, Thomas (Cindy) Seely, Gayle (Dick) Welser, Janet (Tom) Landschoot, Anita (George) Lonsberry, Paul (Teresa) Seely, Sue (Pat) Hool, and Don (Uncle DK) Kunz. He will be greatly missed by his father in law, James Docherty; sisters in law Mary Docherty, Kathy Docherty; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held at Grace Memorial-Smith Chapel 1525 Hancock Street, Port Huron, Michigan 48060 on Thursday, August 3rd, 2023 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm and 5:00pm to 9:00pm. The Elks Lodge 343 with be holding a Lodge of Sorrow Ceremony at 8:00pm on Thursday evening at the funeral home. Funeral Visitation will continue at 10:00am, Friday, August 4th, 2023 at Grace Episcopal Church, 1213 6th Street, Port Huron, Michigan 48060 prior to the funeral service at 11:00am. Burial will be immediately following at Lakeside Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dick Welser, Ryan Welser, Thomas Seely, Dylan Ladmirault, Oliva Seely, and Mary Seely.

Dear Seely Family: My sincere condolences, upon just learning via Mr. Pionk, of Brians' passing. I am shocked and saddened. He was always one of my favorite people from the old neighborhood. Many memories of skating down the hill while the big boys played hockey. We occasionally ran into each other over the years, seeing him last at a wedding. I still get a laugh if I indulge in a chip because of a trick he played on me when we were kids when he snatched it out of my hand & hid it in his mouth; it was really funny. When I next run into that nice (once babysitter) man it will be in a very different place. I am glad to have known him and the family.

I was shocked to just find out about this today. I have many fond memories of the Seely family from my childhood playing hockey on that skating rink in their back yard. Brian was a great guy. My condolences to his family. I am sorry I missed the funeral today. Brian will be in my prayers.
