On August 29, 2025, the world lost one of its brightest lights when Bridey Grant Jacobi passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at the age of 49.
Bridey never measured life in years, but in trips taken, books read, activities attended, movies watched, flowers grown, football games watched, friends hosted, and flights taken. Born January 8, 1976, in San Benito, TX to Bridget (Leigh) and Berl Grant, she grew up with an adventurous spirit and a deep love for making mundane things interesting. Bridey loved a wide variety of activities ranging from snow skiing to sewing, from flower arranging to teaching, and from flying a plane to singing. She could do anything, and her wide range of talents never failed to impress.
Bridey lived in Elkhart, Indiana and Jonesboro, Arkansas before settling in Seymour, Indiana in 1989. Bridey attended Seymour High School, graduating in 1994 and went on to the University of Notre Dame where she majored in Chemistry and minored in Music. She graduated from Notre Dame with honors in 1998 and she returned to Seymour where she worked at Schwarz Pharma. It was there that she met Mark Jacobi, her perfect match, and they married on January 15, 2000. They were blessed with two amazing daughters, Samantha Leigh and Alana Rose.
Bridey was involved in many activities over the years including Garden Club and Book Club. She made the most beautiful floral arrangements for friends and family over the years, usually with flowers from her garden. She loved being involved in her community and was a member of the Jackson County Council. She was a longtime board member at Girls Inc and played the piano and organ at First United Methodist Church in Seymour for 21 years. She also played the piano and organ at St Ambrose Catholic Church for many years. She was involved in the Jackson County Distinguished Young Woman program (previously Junior Miss) and was crowned Jackson County's first ever Junior Miss in 1994.
She was the kind of person who could be at a cross country meet in the morning, watch a Notre Dame football game in the afternoon, play the piano for Mass in the evening and be at the ballet at night. She made the best taco soup and always had enough snacks for everybody. Her presence filled every room with warmth, and her kindness was the sort that lingered long after a conversation ended. She had the best laugh, and her smile would light up a room.
Above all, family and friends were everything to Bridey. She loved them fiercely and completely. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend whose greatest pride was her two daughters, Samantha and Alana. Her favorite things were to cheer Samantha on in a cross country or track meet, or in the pool, and to watch Alana on stage, whether it was ballet or theater. She adored their many family trips to Disney and to Mackinac Island. She could plan an epic family vacation, and they took many over the years. Her stories, traditions, and unconditional love will continue to shape the lives of those she leaves behind.
Bridey is survived by her husband of 25 years, Mark Jacobi, their daughters Samantha Leigh and Alana Rose, as well as her brother Zach Grant (Amanda). She is also survived by her loving mother in law Linda Jacobi, her brother in law Matthew Jacobi (Elizabeth Fabrizio) and Serafina Fabrizio-Jacobi.
Her beloved parents Bridget and Berl Grant preceded her in death, as well as her wonderful father in law Gary Jacobi.
Funeral Mass will be conducted by Voss Sons Funeral Service at St. Ambrose Catholic Church on Saturday, September 6, at 12 noon with Father Dan Staublin officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St Ambrose Catholic School, IU Cancer Research or Purdue Cancer Research in care of Voss and Sons Funeral Service.
