Bridget (Bridie) Philomena Coffey, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, cherished member of her community, and devout woman of faith, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 5th, 2025 in Glenside, Pennsylvania at the age of 84 after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer that Bridie ultimately won when she proudly "rang the bell" at the conclusion of her treatments at the Fox Chase Cancer Center.
Born Bridget Philomena Earls on February 1st, 1941, in County Galway, Ireland, to Kathleen Dobbyn and James Earls, Bridie brought a vibrant spirit and unwavering kindness to all who knew her. Bridie emigrated from Ireland to the United States at the age of 16, where she met and later married the love of her life, Eamon Coffey (predeceased), who also emigrated from Ireland to the United States. Their union was a testament to enduring love and devotion and the mantra "in sickness and in health" as Bridie shepherded Eamon through his own terminal illness by never missing a day at his side over Eamon's nearly three month stay at various medical facilities. Bridie and Eamon were true soulmates who are now reunited for the rest of eternity.
A longtime resident of Jenkintown, Bridie was a dedicated member of Immaculate Conception BVM Church, where she found solace and strength in her strong faith. After spending several years working in the insurance industry, where Bridie forged some long-lasting friendships, she embarked on her most fulfilling career as a stay-at-home mom to her three children and then, frequent babysitter for her six grandchildren, each of whom she adored. Bridie also supported her husband Eamon in his professional endeavors and volunteered numerous hours at The Breathing Room helping cancer patients and their families.
Beyond her professional life, Bridie was known for her warm heart, gentle nature and unwavering dedication to her family. She will be remembered for her caring spirit, her endless generosity, and the ability to brighten any room that she entered with her warm smile. Bridie loved to read, knit, and spend time with her family at their beach house in Brigantine, New Jersey. Bridie also enjoyed going for walks around town with her friends and then gathering for tea or coffee after.
Bridie is survived by her daughters, Anne Coffey and Maureen Gallen (Joseph), and her son, Edward Coffey (Stefanie); her grandchildren Jake, Aidan and Julia Gallen, and Erin, Eamon and Evelyn Coffey; and her nine siblings, including brothers Noel Earls (Rose), Patrick Earls, and Willie Earls (Theresa), who are predeceased, Michael Earls (Mary), and Vincent Earls (Mary), and sisters Francie Houlihan (Terry), Alico Bartley (Joseph), Anne Boland (Tony) and Mary Boyle (Martin). Bridie is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Bridie will be deeply missed by all of her family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation from 9:15 AM to 10:15 AM on Tuesday, May 13th, 2025, at Immaculate Conception BVM Church, 604 West Ave., Jenkintown, PA 19046. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, followed by her interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
