Bro. Eugene Howell, age 89, a beloved Minister who dedicated 57 years of his life to preaching and spreading the Gospel, peacefully passed away Tuesday June 18, 2024 at his home in Batesville, Mississippi. Born on February 22, 1935, Bro. Howell touched the lives of many through his faith, wisdom, and kindness.
Throughout his remarkable ministry spanning over five decades, Bro. Eugene Howell began preaching in 1967 and remained active until the present day. Despite being unable to deliver his final sermon as planned on Father's Day 2024 due to health reasons, the impact of his preaching will resonate for years to come. He was a member of Adonai Church in Water Valley, MS.
Apart from his ministry, Bro. Howell led a diverse professional life. He was a retired Truck Driver for Sears and had also retired from Panola Farmers Service. His passion for driving extended to roles at Heafner Motors, Belk Ford, and Oxford Toyota. His dedication and strong work ethic were evident in all aspects of his life.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Bro. Howell found joy and fulfillment in various hobbies and interests. He had a deep love for bird hunting, particularly quail hunting, which allowed him to connect with nature and find peace in the outdoors. Additionally, he expressed himself through songwriting and found immense pleasure in sharing the stories of faith through music. Perhaps, nothing could surpass his love, however, of sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Bro. Eugene Howell is survived by his loving wife Jean Arwood Howell and their three sons: David Howell of Batesville, MS; Larry Howell of Como, MS; Roger Howell of Enid, MS. His legacy further lives on through ten grandchildren and thirty-three great-grandchildren who will always cherish the memories created with their patriarch.
Services to honor and celebrate Bro. Eugene Howell's life will take place at Wells Funeral Home in Batesville, Mississippi. The visitation is scheduled for June 21st from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM followed by the Funeral Service at Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel at 2:00 PM. The interment will follow at Forrest Memorial Park
Bro. Eugene Howell's passing has left a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit will forever shine bright through the lessons he imparted and the love he shared.
May he rest in eternal peace knowing that he made a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
