Bruce N. Addington

Bruce Norman Addington passed October 10, 2025, at age 93. Born December 27,1932 in Council. Bruce outlived everyone in his Council High School class of 1950. After attending University of Idaho he drove log trucks, felled trees, and fought fire in the Council area. He owned the Phillips 66 bulk plant and delivered fuel until he sold the business to Boyd Mink. Silver, his white German shepherd, was famous for riding on top of the truck in town, on the highway, unpaved roads and July 4th parades. He moved to Boise and drove long haul for Associated Foods and other companies including his own trucking business. He was proud to drive one of the steam engines displayed in Council's square from the Seven Devils to his dad's place in town. He was passionate about hiking and hunting in just about every part of the Seven Devils Mountains. Bruce camped without a tent so he could see stars. He was thrilled to catch a six-foot-long sturgeon in Hells Canyon in 1958. Bruce was known for his light-footed dancing, his thick Rockabilly hair style, and his Harley Davidson bike plus shiny cars with white wall tires. A boxer, he and his friends brought boxing matches to Council, and he hosted pay per view boxing shows at his Boise home. He played piano, ukelele, bongo drums and guitar. Bruce coached Little League baseball and was a Boy Scout Leader.
Married to Edna Wikoff (Lakey) when he lived in Council, he later married Dee Herren and Betty Elliott in Boise. Bruce was a member of the Odd Fellows, the Masonic Lodge, and Council Chamber of Commerce. Above all, Bruce dearly loved his family, all of them by any relation. He is survived by his wife, Betty Elliott, children Dave, Carolyn (Kay MacDonald), Bruce Van (Tiger) and as many grandchildren and great grandchildren and stepchildren as stars in the sky. He is preceded in death by sons, Michael and Max, his sister, Loris Close Van Pelt, parents Hugh and Olive Addington and grandson Nicholas J. Addington. His graveside service will be at the IOOF Cemetery north of Council, Friday, October 17, 2025, at 1:00 pm. Thomason Funeral home in Weiser, Idaho will host a page for Bruce for condolences and memories. Bruce would appreciate donations to the Idaho Humane Society or a pet shelter near you.
