Bruce Roger Berndt, 85, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025, at St. Mark’s Living in Austin.
Bruce was born on August 5, 1939, in Austin, Minnesota, to Chester and Vera (Berg) Berndt. Bruce grew up in Austin, attended Shaw Elementary School, and graduated from Austin High School. He proudly served in the United States Army. After his two years of military service, he worked at Hormel Foods for 28 years. On February 5, 1961, he married Roberta Shutt, and they made their home in Austin, raising their two sons.
Bruce loved the water and often spent his time fishing, deer hunting, and collecting hot wheels and military items. He also loved pizza. Bruce was a member of the American Legion Post 91 and the Eagles Club of Austin.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Roberta of Austin; sons, Michael (Sherry) Berndt of Austin and Rick (Patti) Berndt of Bemidji, MN; five grandchildren, Derek Berndt, Kari Lowe, Kristopher Berndt, Marcus Berndt, and Jenna Berndt; and great grandchildren, Kylie Lowe, Asher Berndt, Avery Lowe, Kasen Berndt, Grady Berndt, Zyaire Berndt, Olivia Berndt, Kleyton Palumbo, and Madyson Palumbo (Sterling Schultz). Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Vera Berndt, and sister, Carol Jacobson.
A graveside service for Bruce will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 2025, in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin, Minnesota. A celebration of life will follow from 12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 107 11th St. NE., Austin, MN 55912. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes are assisting the family with arrangements.
