Bruce J. Birkhead Jr.

Bruce J Birkhead Jr., supervisor at the Baltimore Gas and Company who retired in 1994 and died on March 5, 2025. He was 89 years old. He and his wife Carol lived in Fallston, MD until 2013. Then lived at Oakcrest Residence in Parkville. Most recently moved to San Diego, California in 2022, to be with his daughter and granddaughters.
He was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but grew up in Baltimore, a graduate of City College high school in 1954. The first recipient of the Carol Rosenblum scholarship. A varsity athlete in both football and baseball. He attended night school at the University of Baltimore, where he received a BS in Business Management and a JD in Law. He served two years in the US Army, stationed in Okinawa.
In 1957 he joined Baltimore Gas and Electric. He rose to the position of General Supervisor of Facilities Management, responsible for all the Baltimore Gas & Electric facilities. He was very active both professionally and with volunteer activities. He was president of the Administrative Management Society at BG&E. He also served as President of the Baltimore Gas and Electric Retirees Association. As well as BOMA Building Owners Managers Association, enjoyed golf and was secretary of the CEG golf club.
In 1958 Mr. Birkhead married Carol Wilson. They were thrilled to welcome their daughter Tracy in 1964.
Since retiring in 1994 after 38 years of service, Bruce started a consulting firm which he operated for three years. Since 1998, he dedicated himself to volunteering with the Oriole Advocates. He created the annual Oriole Advocates Challenger League Baseball for physically and mentally challenged children. As President Oriole Advocates Charitable Foundation, he received the "John Saloney Memorial Award" in 2005.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Carol Lee Birkhead. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Tracy Haluza and his loving granddaughters Whitney and Carly Haluza, who live in San Diego, CA.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Bruce's life at the Evans Life Celebration Home, 8800 Harford Road, Parkville, Md 21234 on Friday, March 21, 2025, from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. where a Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. Interment Parkwood Cemetery.
