Bruce Carlton Chesnutt, a longtime resident of Shelby Township, passed away peacefully at his home of 60 years on August 11, 2025, just two days shy of his 91st birthday.
Born on August 13, 1934, in Hazel Park, Michigan, to the late Ferris and Della Mae (née Weber) Chesnutt, Bruce was raised and attended high school in Warren. He went on to enjoy a 40-year career as a skilled tradesman with Ford Motor Company, retiring in 1992.
On August 9, 1952, Bruce married the love of his life, Harriet Hartley. Together they shared more than 73 years of marriage, raising four children and building a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure.
An avid outdoorsman, Bruce enjoyed rabbit hunting in Clare, Michigan, camping, and traveling the country in the family motor home. One of his favorite traditions was staying at the Michigan International Speedway for NASCAR races. Bruce and Harriet's travels took them to many other places, including California and Hawaii. In later years, he could often be found walking-first at Lakeside Mall, then Partridge Creek, and later at the Senior Center-always keeping active. He also loved browsing flea markets in search of unique finds.
Above all, Bruce cherished time with his family. He had a special fondness for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and took joy in watching them grow and take part in their activities.
Bruce is survived by his devoted wife, Harriet; his children, Gary (Petrina) Chesnutt, David Chesnutt, Tammy (Allan) Rambow, and Alan (Cindy) Chesnutt; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his five siblings.
A family-led memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, with memorial visitation beginning at 10:00 AM, on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Gramer Funeral Home, Diener Chapel, 48271 Van Dyke Avenue, Shelby Township, MI, 48317. A private burial will take place at Roseland Park Cemetery in Berkley, Michigan.
