Bruce E. Glover of Hampden, MA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Over the course of his life, Bruce faced and overcame multiple health challenges that seemed unable to slow him down. Through it all, Bruce cherished his family and lived a life guided by his strong and abiding faith.
Bruce was born on October 6, 1942, in Springfield, MA, the son of the late Chester and Emma (Talbot) Glover. He graduated from Minnechaug Regional High School and went on to earn degrees in Liberal Arts and Law Enforcement from American International College and Western New England University.
Bruce proudly served his country in the United States Army, doing his part in the Cold War as an operator of a Nike Missile site in Germany. Later, in 1968, Bruce joined the Springfield Police Department, where, as an avid student of criminal law, he rose to the rank of lieutenant and served as the commanding officer of the 4 p.m. to midnight traffic shift. His career was marked by friendships that endured throughout his life.
After medically retiring from the Police Department and surviving quadruple bypass surgery, Bruce dedicated much of his time to his many hobbies, including fishing, boat building, carpentry, mechanical endeavors of all kinds, and cycling-pursuits through which he continued to form lasting friendships.
Bruce was a devoted Catholic and faithful member of St. Mary's Church in Hampden, where in his youth, he served as an altar boy, and in his retirement, he devoutly attended daily Mass. Throughout his life, he visited the parish's Shrine for Our Lady of Fatima to pray the Rosary almost daily. He also contributed generously to the parish, as he did to so many other charities.
Bruce is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Mary Ellen (Dunn) Glover, with whom he shared two devoted sons, Matthew Glover, a Senior Counsel at the Federal Reserve Board, who resides in Vienna, VA, with his wife Song Eun, and the Rev. Mark Glover, Pastor of St Mary's Church in Orange, MA. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Nathaniel and Rosalie; his brother Michael Glover and his wife, Kim, of Putnum, CT; and his sister Mary Jane Cook and her husband, James, of Andover, MA, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, February 3, 2026 from 4PM – 6PM at St. Mary's Church, 27 Somers Road Hampden MA followed by a prayer service at 6PM. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at 11AM at St. Mary's Church in Hampden. Burial and Military honors will be held at a later date at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hampden.
