BRUCE KAPLAN Obituary

KAPLAN--Bruce M. The Honorable Bruce M. Kaplan passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 23rd, 2022, in his residence in West Palm Beach, FL. He is survived by his loving wife, Janet Yaseen, his brother, Peter Kaplan, his nephew, Peter Edward "Teddy" Kaplan, his adored niece, Jennifer (Kaplan) Hall, and his grandniece, Clementine Hall. He was preceded in death by his father, Saul Kaplan, and his mother, Shirley (Black) Kaplan. Born May 22, 1940, in Brooklyn, NY, and educated at Phillips Academy ('58), Princeton University ('62) and University of Pennsylvania Law School ('65), Bruce followed his father's passions for the Democratic Party and the law. Upon graduation, he served as Law Secretary for the esteemed Jurists, the Honorable Bernard Meier and the Honorable Bertram Harnett. Thereafter, Judge Kaplan served two terms in New York Family Court under mayors, Edward "Ed" Koch and David Dinkins. A passionate bibliophile and student of history, Bruce served on the board of the Hampton Library in Bridgehampton, LI for twelve years, acceding to the role of President from 2014-2016, and raising the largest appeal in the library's history to date. He will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Hampton Library.
