Huntersville, NC -- Bruce Hayden Keller was born May 27, 1942. He was welcomed by the Lord into the Glory of Heaven while at CMC Atrium in Charlotte, NC on June 2, 2024 due to recently diagnosed heart and cancer issues.
Bruce was born and raised in Avery County, NC. He graduated from Crossnore High School and did some college courses at CPCC. He was a long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Charlotte.
Bruce served in the United States Army with the 82nd Airborne, primarily stationed in Germany. After his military service he joined the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department for over 30 years. Through his years with CMPD he held many roles, some included motorcycle traffic patrol, task force, detective work, and co-Piloting the CMPD police helicopter.
In retirement some of his favorite past time was spent surf fishing in the Outer Banks with his wife, friends and their family. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially the Tennessee Volunteers football and Atlanta Braves baseball. In most recent years he became exceptionally proud of his two great-granddaughters for their love and talent for playing ball, he loved to watch them both play.
Bruce is preceded in death by his parents Bruce and Inez B. Keller. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of almost 61 years, Sarah Kate Buchanan Keller. Their daughter Cheryl Lynette Hobbs and her husband Logan. Their son Bruce Lane Keller and girlfriend Kimberly. Their one granddaughter that he and Kate raised from birth, Sarah Whitney Keller and her husband Alexander Ray, and their two children Aubrey Larissa Keller-Ray and Addison Kate Keller-Ray. Bruce has one sister, Alice K. Flowe and to whom he shared a very special sibling bond with.
A service to celebrate the life of Bruce Hayden Keller will be held on June 6, 2024 at James Funeral Home in Huntersville. The family will receive friends at 1pm and the service will follow at 2pm. In lieu of flowers the family would greatly appreciate donations to St. Jude, Shriners Children's Hospital or other cancer research organizations.
