Bruce LePage Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Plainville Funeral Home - Plainville on Jun. 11, 2021.
Tulsa, Oklahoma- Bruce A. LePage 49, of Tulsa Oklahoma, formerly of East Providence, RI, and Seekonk, Mass. died unexpectedly at home. Born in Providence, RI he was the son of Roland P. LePage of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Nancy (Greene) LePage of Seekonk, Mass. He lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma since 2016 where he worked as an Environmental Specialist for Magellan Midstream Partners. Magellan is a large petroleum corporation that Bruce earned success with over the course of a decade since beginning on the docks in New Haven, CT before quickly moving into management, running a plant in Midland, TX and deciding to transfer into the environmental compliance division in Tulsa, OK.

He graduated from East Providence High School in 1989. He was an athlete, and played baseball and football, in addition to his interest in fitness and nutrition.  He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1989, and following both basic training and Security Police training, was deployed to Rhein-Main Airbase in Frankfurt, Germany for two years during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Following his many adventures in Germany, Bruce returned to the states and was stationed at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming as Security Police and Response Team Leader.

After his honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1993, he attended The University of New Hampshire where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, graduating with cum laude honors in 1998.  Between 1998-2009, Bruce was employed as a Behavior Manager, Vocational Case Manager and later a Residential Counselor with various educational and social services organizations in Connecticut before shifting from the mental health field to utilize many of his other talents and interpersonal skills with Magellan Midstream Partners.

Bruce had a unique and genuinely kind and compassionate personality and character, and left a lasting positive impression on all who met him. Despite his muscular and athletic exterior, he was as gentle as they come, referred to as a big "teddy bear" by many who knew him. Bruce always conveyed a calm, quiet and soulful presence. He liked to keep to himself, and to have his own space for reading, reflection, and introspection, yet had a great sense of humor and would put those who met him at ease and comfort with his fun and lighthearted quips. His colleagues have shared how much they liked Bruce, and spoke of how helpful, kind and genuine he was in all interactions. He was thoughtful and truly cared about people. He was described as a special soul and one of the kindest human beings and was loved by many in Tulsa as well as his home.

Bruce was a free spirit, and an adventurer who traveled and lived in several parts of the country from his hometown on the east coast to the west coast and many locations in between. His life experiences were diverse and rather eclectic.

In addition to his vocations, his hobbies and interests were equally diverse as he enjoyed everything from fitness to playing in a volleyball league in Tulsa, where Bruce was said to be a key player on a championship team. You could also find Bruce hiking, biking, kicking a hacky sack, throwing a frisbee, bringing Harvey to a dog park, perhaps doing Yoga in the park with a group of strangers, or just laying in the sun, and on a beach whenever he could.

Bruce was introspective and a deep thinker and enjoyed learning from the teachings of other thinkers, whether reading Walden from Thoreau and thinking about his own possible adventures into the wild, or listening to the analytical teachings of philosophers like Alan Watts. Bruce pushed his mind to think about life, and the bigger picture of our existence, from many broad and thought provoking sources and perspectives. He had a free and ever-searching spirit who enjoyed sharing his thinking and learning with others with similar interests. He dreamed of writing a book and he had a list of topics to write about. He had so much to share, but unfortunately didn't get to put his thoughts on paper. Sadly, he had a treasure trove of wisdom and insight in his beautiful mind that we will never get to know more deeply. He was wise beyond his years and a seeker of truth.

Bruce was a perfectionist, always aspiring for, and forever seeking, the pinnacle of fulfillment in his existence. He set the same high standard in his search for love. Despite many good relationships, he never married or had children of his own. Bruce was a wonderful gift to his family, friends, acquaintances and all who had the good fortune of meeting and knowing him.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his two "fur babies", as he affectionately called his 8 year old dog and special friend Harvey and his 4 year old cat Sophy. He is also survived by his sister Melissa Johnston of N. Providence, RI, sister Denise Flores, of Rehoboth, Ma., brother and lifelong friend, Steven LePage of Wolcott, CT and his wife Denise (Triepke) LePage and family, and half-brother James LePage and wife Alika and family of Ripon, California. He leaves eight nieces and nephews who will miss their gentle, supportive and funny Uncle Bruce greatly.

We were all brothers- and sisters-in-arms, those of us in the 435th Security Police Squadron that I first went to war with. It pains me to just now learn that my brother-in-arms, Senior Airman Bruce LePage, passed away seven months ago. We were stationed together at Rhein-Main Air Base, Frankfurt, (West) Germany, during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He joins our other departed brothers and sisters, whose boisterous, hearty welcome shook the heavens as he arrived at the Pearly Gates. It was my utmost honor to walk the line with you. Godspeed to you all, my brothers and sisters, your final guardmount has come. Not only were we all a tight-knit, cohesive unit, we were most-importantly, a family. Help everyone in relieving St. Peter and secure the Heavenly Gates for the time being, he is clear for Code 9 now and can finally go to the bathroom! "Main Gate, Control, what is your status? All Secure, Lima"

One of my greatest memories from Germany was during a trip Bruce and I took together. We went night skiing. I had never been skiing before. For my first run, he took me on the black diamond. At night. As we rode the ski lift above the fog, he told me the only thing I had to know about skiing was to keep my skis straight. He told me I could break my legs if I let them angle in. I fell about 20 times. Each time having to climb back up what felt like the length of a football field to my skis just to lose control from the speed I gained keeping my skis straight. A German approached me near the bottom of the mountain and told me to try angling my skis. Bruce was waiting for me at the bottom of the mountain laughing harder than I had ever seen him laugh.
As we left the ski area, we slide off the road. Four guys came over to help us bounce the car back on to the road. This was the first time I learned a car could be bounced.
The next morning we stopped at an Army base to get gas coupons. I ran in to get them while he was turning the car around. Another friend, Robo, and I had bought the car for $600. I came out of the store to find Bruce blocking the road with the car. I waved to him and he yelled out for me to come to him. I yelled back that he had the car and should drive to me. He insisted. I got in the car and he asked, "Has this ever happened before?" as he handed me the gear shift. An Army MP showed us that we could drive the car but the stick shift could easily pull out while we were driving. This gave us a great idea. When we returned from the trip we picked up a few friends and went out on the autobahn. Once we got to 100 mph, we pulled the gearshift out and screamed. This never got old. Sorry time and distance got between us. Miss you buddy.
