Fitchburg- Bruce Wayne Maki, of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home on April 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and cherished pets. He was 78 years old.
Born on July 24, 1946, in Fitchburg, Bruce remained deeply connected to his hometown throughout his life. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Bruce served with honor and distinction during three tours in Vietnam. His unwavering dedication to his country was a source of immense pride, and he carried the values of service and patriotism with him throughout his life.
Following his military service, Bruce worked for many years as a paper maker-a trade that reflected both his strong work ethic and commitment to providing for those he loved. Later in Life, he found great joy and fulfillment driving a special needs school bus. The student he transported, held such a special place in his heart.
Bruce was a man who embraced life fully. He found peace and happiness outdoors-whether hunting in the woods, casting a line into the water while fishing, or enjoying water skiing under the sun. He especially loved spending time by the pool and smoking cigars with his kids.
His deep connection to nature and animals brought him comfort and joy throughout his days.
A man of profound faith, Bruce lived as a devoted Christian who welcomed Christ into every aspect of his life. His belief in God guided him daily and shaped the way he treated others-with kindness, humility, and compassion. He lived by the principles of God, Country, and Family first.
Bruce leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory: the love of his life for 52 years, Joyce Gardner Maki, a beloved hairdresser for the Gauvin family for 50 years; his beloved son Chad Maki; his cherished daughter Kim Contrino and her beloved husband, Adam Contrino; brother Butch Maki and his wife Jo Maki; brother-in-law Larry Gardner and his wife Donna; brother-in-law Jeff Gardner and his wife Mary; along with many nieces and nephews who were beloved by him.
A memorial service honoring Bruce's life will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, located at 111 Glenallen Street in Winchendon, Massachusetts.
Bruce Wayne Maki will be remembered for his steadfast devotion to faith, family, and country. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
