He is also survived by several nieces and nephews: Joel, Rich and Anthony Neddo; Sarah and Christopher Kingsbury; Alison and Thomas Gallagher; Laura Rivers, Daniel White and Bethany Lynch; Andrea Hill; Mark Hill and Elizabeth Myers.
Bruce also has four great nephews: Luca, Julian, Richard (RJ), and George Neddo as well as one great niece Evelyn (Eevie) Lynch.
Bruce attended SUNY Canton and graduated with a degree in construction following high school in Watertown. He moved to the Capital District when he was 23 to take a job with the State of New York Conservation where he advanced steadily over the years to a high level supervisory position before his retirement in 2003.
Bruce was always happy to be at family gatherings and was especially fond of interacting with the youngest among us. He was dedicated to providing for and supporting family over the years. He was very proud of his kids, grandchildren and nieces and nephews and all their accomplishments and often did what he could to encourage and support them to reach their goals.
He had a strong network of friends that he was loyal to over the years that he often went out to eat with and routinely relieved of their pocket change in weekly poker games. He also taught the youngest in the family how to play Texas Hold 'Em on Friday nights with a take no prisoners method of learning to their delight. He had a true love of all things involving tech gadgets (and believed the rest of us should, too) and often helped others with their computers and electronics.
Bruce enjoyed history and in recent years became immersed in restoring carpenters wooden planes made by the Stanley Tool Company about 100 years ago. He enjoyed cooking and making all kinds of preserves, pickles and sauces many of which he learned from his mom. Bruce was an avid reader and enjoyed all types of games in his spare time as well as playing competitive darts.
Bruce was a lifelong member of the Watervliet Elks, a long term member of the Troy Pistol League and a truly dedicated pet owner over the years. He loved his cat members of the family over the years and could always be seen with one on his lap at the computer. Most recently he was smitten with his newest addition, a puppy named Holly.
Bruce was very appreciative of all in the medical field who assisted him in his later years during his health challenges. He was a truly unique man that touched many and will be missed by family and many friends and acquaintances. One of Bruce's nieces wrote a tribute to Bruce on Facebook that we have included below as we think it summed up Bruce in a way he would definitely have smiled and chuckled about.
Donations may be made in Bruce's memory to the Hudson Mohawk Humane Society or the Melrose Fire Department.
