Robert Frederick Stodgell (1946-2026)

Robert Frederick Stodgell, 80, of Schaghticoke, NY died peacefully at Hoosick Falls Nursing Center after a long illness on February 9, 2026.

He was born in Ballston Spa, NY in 1946 to the late Robert and Elizabeth (Lesson) Stodgell. He is survived by his wife, Melissa (Novick) Stodgell, his son, Robert W. Stodgell, daughter Karen (Stodgell) Brown (Dale Wingler) and granddaughter, Riley Brown, Nephew Timmy Garrahan, Nieces Colleen (Ray Lewis) Garrahan and Kate (Don) Nadeau. He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Garrahan and his former wife, Nancy (Krueger) Stodgell. He was blessed to have a large extended family living close by who were a part of his life growing up and still looked out for him in the recent years.

He was a graduate of Hoosic Valley High School and worked for more than 30 years at General Electric in Waterford, NY, being recognized for his contributions and innovations over the years. Robert enjoyed summers the most and loved to spend time in the yard, planting, growing and enjoying raspberries out of his garden. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing video games and was always a die hard Giants fan.

Robert will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor and his gentle spirit. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Donna Rose who assisted him and brought laughter and light into his life this past year.

Visiting will be from 11am- 1:00pm on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 173 Main St., Schaghticoke. A memorial service will follow at 1:00pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, Robert's family requests that remembrances be made to the VFW in loving memory of Robert F. Stodgell.
