Bruce J. Schwalm, 74, of Lenhartsville, PA, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2025 in Lehigh Valley Inpatient Hospice, Allentown, PA. He was the husband of Rita K. (Adam) Schwalm, whom he married on August 5, 1972.
Born in Reading, PA, Bruce was a son of the late Jerred F. and Ruth M. (Burgert) Schwalm. Bruce was a 1969 graduate of Kutztown Area High School. Following his high school graduation, Bruce served in the United States Army, where he served honorably and faithfully during the Vietnam War. For 32 years, Bruce was employed first by Western Electric, then AT&T, Lucent Technologies and lastly Agere Systems, starting as a chip assembler and for the majority of his career, as a facility operator and maintenance technician.
Bruce was a former member of Frieden's Church, Lenhartsville. He was a 50 year member of Huguenot Lodge No. 377 F.&A.M., Kutztown, PA, and was a member of the Rajah Shrine. Bruce was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He belonged to the Lenhartsville Fish and Game Association and Sunnyside Rod and Gun Club. Above all, Bruce loved and cherished his family, especially his grandsons. He was their #1 supporter of all of their events and activities.
Along with his wife of nearly 53 years, Bruce is survived by his daughter, Andrea L. (Schwalm), wife of Brian M. Hilliard, Kutztown; two grandsons, Tucker J. Hilliard and Jaxson L. Hilliard; three siblings, Burt J., widower of Margo Ann (Hoffman) Schwalm, Breinigsville, Brad J. Schwalm, Kutztown and Betsy J. (Schwalm), wife of Troy A. Adam, Mertztown; and his nieces and nephews, Arielle (Schwalm), wife of Eric Levine, Jeremiah, husband of Sara (Trupp) Schwalm, Katie (Adam), wife of Brenden Kehm, and Keegan, husband Taylor (Rohrbach) Adam; and their families. In addition to his parents, Bruce was predeceased by his infant sister, Karen R. Schwalm in 1961.
A funeral service to celebrate and honor Bruce's life will be held on Monday, August 11, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, PA with Pastor Nate Herrlin officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by The Pennsylvania Military Funeral Honor Guard and Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion Honor Guard, Topton, PA, will follow in Frieden's Church Cemetery, Lenhartsville.
Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Sunday evening, Aug. 10th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, concluding with a masonic service by Huguenot Lodge No. 377 F.&A.M., Kutztown, PA at 8:00 p.m. There will also be a viewing held on Monday morning from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.
