Bruce Anthony Vaughan, lovingly known as Tony, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 13, 2026, at the age of 92. Born June 17, 1933, in Union, South Carolina, he was the son of Harper and Sarah Bruce Vaughan.
Tony graduated from Union High School and later earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson University. He dedicated many years of service to the textile and printing industries, working as Plant Engineer at Rock Hill Printing & Finishing for 20 years. He later served as Engineering Manager of the Finishing Division at Cone Mills, where he retired after a distinguished career.
Tony proudly served his country as a U.S. Army veteran, Sargeant First Class of the Korean War. As a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, he achieved the rank of Senior Parachutist and served as a Jump Master.
A devoted member of his community, Tony was a lifetime member of Rock Hill Masonic Lodge 111 AFM, a 32° Scottish Rite Mason, the American Legion, and a member of the Hejaz Temple of the Shrine. He was also a dedicated member of Woodland United Methodist Church and especially cherished his Fellowship Sunday School Class, which was filled with friends who were more like family.
Tony demonstrated a deep commitment to education and public service through his work with York Technical College. He served on the York Technical College Commission for 39 years, including 11 years as Board Chair, and was also a member and Past President of the South Carolina Association for Technical College Commissioners.
Tony was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Libby Vaughan, as well as his brother and sister.
He is survived by his daughter, Luanne Vaughan Gatlin (John); his son, Brian A. Vaughan (Marco); and five grandchildren: Michael Gatlin (Kristin Potter), Hannah Gatlin (Tae Joon Kim), Harris Vaughan (Emily), Sam Gatlin, and Caroline Vaughan.
Tony found great joy in spending time with his family and with friends in the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He loved restoring old tractors and cars, cheering on his Clemson Tigers, and traveling the world with Libby. His steady presence, generous spirit, and dedication to faith, family, and community will be remembered by all who knew him.
Visitation with the family will be held at Woodland United Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. on February 20, 2026.
Memorials may be made to Woodland United Methodist Church, 801 Cherry Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732, or Providence Hospice.
