Bryan Mattas Obituary

Bryan Mattas
Bryan Mattas, a lifelong Joliet and Plainfield area resident, passed away at the age of 55, early Saturday morning, July 27, 2024, with family by his side at the Lightways Hospice Home. He was recently diagnosed with a very aggressive form of cancer which he battled until his final moments, after being assured he could let go.
Although Bryan would often say he bled Cubby and Cowboy blue, those who loved him most would say it was the depth of his soul that captured their hearts.
Bryan was born June 25, 1969, the second of four boys Bob and Karen were blessed with. He attended local grade schools and graduated with the Class of 1987 from Plainfield High School. For over 29 years, he was a faithful employee of Bolingbrook Glass and Mirror. He was a fiercely loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Cubs. Bryan also loved the outdoors, talking shop in his man cave while a ballgame was blaring, and simply being with his family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jorie (Hill) Mattas, with whom he exchanged vows in June; his cherished son, Colby; step-daughters, Cassidy, Bria, Kenna, and young Brynlee, his step-granddaughter; his devoted father, Robert L. (Sharon) Mattas; brothers, Rob (Brenda), Brent (Mary), and Russell (Trichelle) Mattas; nieces and nephews, Robby (Courtney), Bailey, Kylie, Austin, Leia, Nick (Sarah), William and Logan; great nephew, Benjamin, and great niece, Harper. Also surviving are his uncle, Kenny Lovati, cousins, Trisha (Scott) Samuelson and Deidre "Dee Dee" Sinchak, along with numerous other cousins and many good friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Karen (Lovati) Mattas; his uncle, Tom Lovati; as well as his grandparents.
Visitation for Bryan will be held Thursday, August 1, 2024 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road (at Essington Road), Joliet. Funeral services will be Friday, August 2, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., from the funeral home to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m.
Cremation rites will be accorded after Mass and Bryan's final earthly remains will be interred at a later date at Mt Olivet Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name can be made to the American Cancer Society or Lightways Hospice of Joliet.
