Aaron "Buddy" Crews, Sr., left this world on August 11, 2025, at his home in Moniac, GA, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on December 18, 1939, in Moniac, Buddy lived a life full of hard work and the love of his family.
Buddy dedicated over 50 years to the field of construction, and oh, how he loved swinging that backhoe! Many would say he was the best backhoe operator in the business, a title earned by his unmatched skill and passion for what he did. He began working early in life to support his family and continued til just six months before his passing, not out of necessity but because it was his joy—the man never did slow down. Most of his career was spent with GW Rhoden and Mitch Canaday, where he left a mark that his coworkers and friends fondly remember.
Outside of work, Buddy found his greatest happiness in the woods, sharing countless hunting adventures with his sons and grandsons. Known affectionately as "the oldest young gun" in his hunting club, he embraced life outdoors, teaching the younger generations the value of patience, respect, and a good hunt.
Buddy's family was the bedrock of his life. He shared 64 beautiful years with his beloved wife, Judy Ann Richardson Crews, and together they raised 4 children—Aaron (Chita) Crews, Jr., Arnold (DeeDee) Crews, TrishAnn (Doug) Mobley, and Chris Crews. His heart swelled with pride for the ones that called him Pa: Matt (Katie) Crews, Josh (Kristin) Crews, Becki (Trez) Smith, Kristi (Charles) Minta, Nicholas Mobley, Kiara Crews, Sedaira (Jacob) Higginbotham, and Taylor (Justin) Combs, and 16 great-grandchildren - all adding to the joy of his life. He also leaves behind his dear sister, Geneva Cook.
Buddy is preceded in death by his father, Earnest Crews; his mother, Mertie Johns Crews Combs; along with his brothers, Paul, Archie, Earnest "Putty," and Jimmy Crews, and sisters, Ophelia Nipper, Roxie Baty, Arie "Sissy" Lauramore, and Carolyn Vellecca.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 10:00am to 11:00am, followed by a funeral service starting at 11:00am. Both events will take place at Taylor Church in Sanderson, FL with Bro. Tommy Richardson officiating. He will be laid to rest immediately following the service at Taylor Church Cemetery. Pallbearers are Shawn "Skinny" Ball, Dale "Red" Harvey, Mark Crews, Mitch Canaday, R.B. Lauramore, and Justin Combs with Honorary Pallbearers Sandy Dowling, Brad Raulerson, Judd Raulerson, Dushayne Raulerson, Larry Green, Mike Bradley, Terry Crews, Larry Crews, and Gary Crews.
