Born September 25, 1951, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Orrie T. Avin and the late Nora McLeod Avin. He was a graduate of Furman High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired from Bovis Lend Lease Construction.
Survivors include his wife, June; sons, Jason Travers (Melissa) and Chris Avin; daughter, Audra Jo "A.J." Lewis; stepson, Chris Kelly; brother, Wayne Avin; and sisters, Diane Turbeville (Michael), Rosalee Griffin, and Hilda Glava.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M. Monday, September 8, 2025, at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 140 Stoneridge Dr #640, Columbia, SC 29210.
Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
