Burnis Lee Whitaker, 73 of Somerset passed from this life unexpectedly on Sunday, October 12, 2025.
He was born on December 11, 1951 in Somerset, Pulaski County, Kentucky. He was the youngest son born to the late Edsel and Delphene Harris Whitaker. He was a graduate of Shopville High School and became an accomplished auto sales person and owning his own business. He operated the Whitaker Auto Sales Company until his retirement. Burnis served his county in the United States Army and Reserves achieving the rank of Specialist 4. He was of the Christian Faith and attended the First Christian Church of Somerset. Burnis enjoyed drag racing, working on his Chevrolet. He was a hard-wording, kindhearted and generous person who won the friendship of many. he will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Burnis was married to Jo Ann Gadberry on February 14,1975, in Somerset. They recently celebrated 50 years of marriage together.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife; Jo Ann Gadberry Whitaker, a sister; Alma (Rev. Harold) Harris, and a brother; Billy Whitaker all of Somerset. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Burnis was preceded in death by his parents and a brother; Bobby Whitaker.
A Graveside Service and Inurnment will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at the Mill Springs National Cemetery, 9044 KY-80, Nancy, Kentucky 42544. American Legion Post #38 will present full military Honors.
