Burton Piaser
June 22, 1939 – July 28, 2025
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Burton Piaser, a beloved husband, father,
grandfather, brother, and uncle, who passed away on Monday, July 28th, 2025 at the age of 86.
Born on June 22, 1939, in Queens, New York, Burt was a man of intellect, curiosity, and quiet
strength. He studied electrical engineering at MIT, where his deep love of learning and problem-solving took root. In the late 1960s, he moved to Stamford, Connecticut, where he established roots and became a cherished member of the community.
After graduating, he began a career in the semiconductor industry, first at Fairchild, and later as the founder and owner of his own business, Phoenix Sales, where he blended sales and technical expertise with his natural gift for building relationships.
Burt was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sydelle Piaser, who passed away on December 7, 2009, and by his older brother, Sam Piaser, with whom he shared a lifelong bond. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Caryn Shapiro, her husband Marc, and their three children, Hallie, Lily, and Brett who were the light of his life. He loved them deeply and took immense pride in being their grandfather. He is also survived by his younger brother, Fred Piaser. His deep sense of family and connection was felt by all who knew him.
Burt had a wide range of interests too many to name, but among them were his impressive stamp collection, his appreciation for antiques, his passion for photographing family moments, his enjoyment of fine wine, and his deep love for classical music.
In the last decade of his life, Burt faced significant challenges related to mental illness. These years were not easy, but they were met with the same resilience and thoughtfulness that defined his life. His family stood by him with enduring love and care, and his struggle is acknowledged with honesty, compassion, and respect.
Burt will be remembered for his brilliant mind, dry humor, and big heart. His legacy lives on in
the family he loved, the passions he pursued, and the lives he touched with his presence.
A graveside funeral service will be held at Temple Beth El in Stamford, Connecticut on
Wednesday, July 30th at 10:30am. Shiva will follow the funeral on Wednesday from 1 to 4pm
and 6 to 8pm and on Thursday, July 31st from 5 to 8pm. The shiva will take place at the
Clubhouse at Old Farm Lake, 200 Rambling Brook Road, Chappaqua, NY. In lieu of flowers,
donations in Burton's memory may be made to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness)
