Byron Dale Barton

Byron Dale Barton passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and children on February 16, 2025. Byron was born on February 9, 1941 in Kaysville, Utah to Dale Layton Barton and Florence Elizabeth Richter. He has two brothers, Justin Richter and Bruce Layton, and one sister, Cindy Louise.

 Byron grew up on a small farm in Kaysville, Utah. He spent his childhood exploring the fields around his house and down by Barton pond. He loved his chicken coops, homing pigeons and puttering around the barn. He also helped take care of cows which provided food for his family. He loved duck hunting. He had memories of ice skating on Mantua pond with his church group, playing chess and playing the saxophone. He was also chosen for Boys State representing Davis High School at the Utah Legislature. Byron and his brother, Justin, played the piano and the marimba and entertained people locally at parties. His family spent the summer months camping and fishing in Yellowstone and Deer Creek Reservoir. They also looked forward to backpacking trips in the Uinta Mountains.

 Byron was called to the Northwestern States Mission and served for two years as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Following his mission he traveled around Europe with his brother, Justin. When he returned, he attended Weber State University where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering. This degree led to a career with IBM.

 Byron met his sweetheart, Judy De Palmer, on a blind date and they were married on December 10, 1965 in the Salt Lake Temple. They soon moved to Boulder, Colorado where they gave birth to their daughter, Heidi and their son, Christopher Byron. IBM transferred them to San Jose, California where they had their son, Tyler Palmer, and their second daughter, Jodi. They lived there for thirty years.

 While in California, Byron served in many church callings, including Elder’s Quorum President, counselor in the Bishopric, and Scoutmaster. Scoutmaster was one of his favorite callings. He loved teaching and leading the boys. His favorite activity was taking the scouts on long backpacking trips, including the Grand Canyon.

 The Barton family spent their free time camping and boating. Favorite spots included Eagle Lake, Clear Lake and the beach. They especially enjoyed camping with their friends. They have such love for the many friends they made in California. In 1992 our family went on a six week trip across the United States. We visited 24 states and made wonderful memories. Byron and Judy loved to travel and had a memorable trip to the British Isles.

 Byron loved cars. He had an old white Ford truck, a Ram Charger and had fun going to MG rallies in his yellow MG convertible. He also loved building things in his woodshop and collecting coins. We always had a garden in the backyard and canned fruits and vegetables.

 Byron retired from IBM after 33 years of employment and moved his family to Farmington, Utah. His children followed his example and moved to the area. Byron spent the last 20 years of his life enjoying his extended family. They had countless family parties and fun reunions in places like Oregon, Alaska and Island Park. Byron continued his numerous hobbies, adding bee keeping, and traveled around supporting his children and grandchildren in their various activities.

 Unfortunately, Byron experienced several small strokes and the resulting complications ultimately led to his passing. He passed away peacefully at the Intermountain Health hospital in Layton, Utah. Judy was by his side and his children were gathered around.

 Byron is preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Florence, his sister, Cindy, and his granddaughter, Sage. He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Judy, and his four children; Heidi (Thad Ballard), Chris (Amy Belnap), Tyler (Sarah Barth) and Jodi (Sherri Crook). He also has sixteen grandchildren: Benjamin, Logan (Emma Parsons), Carson, Taylor (David Hadley), Rhett, Grady, Jenner, Addy, Haley (Brent Blackwell) Zachary, Kelsey, Amanda, Sage, Isaac, Oliver and Avery. He has two great-grandchildren, Luca and Heath.

 We all loved him and he will definitely be missed.

 Memorial services will be held Saturday February 22, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel, 380 S. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah. Family and friends may visit Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church prior to the service.
