Sergeant Byron Antonio Houston was born on April 13, 1956, in Virginia and grew up in North Carolina. He was the eldest of five with siblings Toi Denise Houston, Markus Lee Houston, Sondra Houston-Grover, and Oliver A. Houston.
Byron graduated from high school then attended college before joining the United States Air Force as a Medical Service Specialist and Medical Laboratory Specialist. He received the Air Force Good Conduct Medal and the Air Force Longevity service ribbon with an honorable discharge.
He started a beautiful family a few years before military separation, as he continued his career as a Medical Laboratory Specialist at several private and nationally known laboratories. He completed a decade with Lab Corp before retirement during the COVID-19 pandemic. He did his best to enjoy retirement by spending time with his grandchildren and traveling to visit family and friends. He had his illness. He was a fighter, he believed in God, he did keep plenty to himself and the Lord. He loved doing things in person and simply talking to anyone that would listen due to the wisdom and many stories he had to tell.
Byron lived his life to the fullest, and he never complained. He would say quote, "Just let me live!!" A strong, hard-working, loyal, disciplined, serious character that wanted to be a friend to just about anyone. He enjoyed his chess, Sci-Fi with his top favorite being Star Trek, Deep Space Nine, Outer Limits and anything that was not from this planet or galaxy, reading Sci-Fi, anything by Larry Nivens and many others, going fishing, growing his plants, fruits and vegetables, grilling on his favorite smoker (that he painted himself with the Bears logo & colors), and spending time with his grandchildren and his German Shepherd, Duke.
He was very passionate about his family and what he wanted, and he would do whatever it took to get it. (*ARIES*)
Byron Antonio Houston, age 68 passed peacefully into eternal life on Sunday October 20, 2024. Byron's legacy and memories will be cherished by his special aunt, Jean and (Opal), sisters, Toi Houston (Jerry), Sondra Grover (Glenn); brother, Oliver A. Houston (Gayla); children Jonathan Lee Tanksley-Houston and Annyta Denise Courtney (J.Lewis); his grandchildren John Lewis Courtney III. and Nathaniel Wanya Courtney; nieces and nephews Kenneth Foggie, Taylour Foggie, Markus Houston, Harper Bischoff, Tion Houston, and Troy Houston; great nephew Camden Robinson and great niece Cayleigh Robinson.
Byron is now united in heaven with his beloved father Oliver Lee and his mother Dellean; brother, Markus Lee; grandparents Hubert and Mamie; and his auntie's Dorena and Ethel, who gave him the goat milk he needed from the beginning that saved his life.
Acknowledgements
The Family of Sergeant Byron A. Houston wishes to express our sincere gratitude and most heartfelt appreciation for the great outpour of support and the many acts of kindness during this time of bereavement. We are especially grateful for those who have walked with us through the journey of his illness. The love and friendships from Angie, whom Byron never stopped loving and the help from Gloria and April, his dearest friends.
Plea for Purity
And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have Lack of nothing. But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
~1 Thessalonians 4:11-14
