Byron V. Kowitz, age 93, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life with family by his side on Monday, October 27, 2025 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center.
Byron was born on July 13, 1932 in Norwalk, WI to the late Ernest and Clara (Lueck) Kowitz. He graduated from Norwalk High School with the class of 1950. Byron served his country in the United States Army from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1958. On August 12, 1961, Byron married the love of his life, Ramona F. Scott at Woodford Methodist Church in Woodford, WI. He continued his education, graduating from UW Platteville with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and a Master's Degree in Science Education from the University of Montana. Byron taught Chemistry and Biology at Lincoln High School for 32 years until his retirement in 1994. Byron enjoyed gardening, and also played softball into his 60's. He served on various boards and was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Byron further was active with and supported Friends of Sinawa, Collins Marsh and Conservation Education Inc.
Byron's greatest achievement and joy was his family. He took great pride in raising his four sons in the Christian faith, then witnessing that blessing being passed on to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include Byron's wife of 64 years, Ramona; four sons, Kent (Julie), Sheboygan; Jeffery (Melissa), Brown Deer; Kevin (Lori), Inver Grove Heights, MN; and Craig (Rose Ann), New Berlin; 10 grandchildren, Kirsten (Casey) George, Katelyn (Ryan) Bolte, Kelsey (Devon) Nuteson, Andrew (Casey) Kowitz, Tanner Kowitz, Peter Kowitz, Matthew Kowitz, Rachel Kowitz, Mary Kowitz and Hope Kowitz; seven great grandchildren, Lincoln, Brynlee and Colette Bolte; Raelynn and Kheiron George; and Cooper and Sadie Kowitz; brother, Lyle (Patsy) Kowitz, Camden, MI; brother-in-law, Gayle Luchsinger, Fort Myers, FL; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Byron was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Clara Kowitz; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Bonabel Scott; brother, Norman (Amy) Kowitz; sister-in-law, Marilee Luchsinger; and twin granddaughters, Amelia Grace and Taylor Rose Kowitz.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1712 Menasha Avenue, Manitowoc. Pastor Jonathan Huehn will officiate with private family committal services to be held at Evergreen Cemetery. Immediately following the funeral service at church, military honors will be accorded by AMVETS Post 99.
